The Cricket of Hroes
by Harsh Vardhan Dutta on Nov 08, 2004 06:05 PM

All of those who are not followers of cricket in India
are the blessed ones. Firstly, they escape from the heart bumps that people suffer from every now and then. Secondly, they utilise that time in more useful manner, as cricket is probably the lengthiest of all the games.

I rate the Indian cricketers as the most consistent of all the global sportsmen, off-field , in fact their average has been increasing year by year. Here I have two reasons to support my arguement: 1. Indian cricketers endorse products regularly from cars to cycles (no discrimantion here) 2. The amount of money that comes from here is increasing year by year, with special accountants appointed by each individual.

But what an irony it is for Indian television spectators more often than not. Imagine Yuvraj Singh being caught in the slips for a royal duck, and as he walks back to the pavillion shaking his head and showing the ususal agony, the very nest moment we see him smiling and clicking pictures from various angles of a dancing boy (wishing he tries various angles to tackle the Australian fast bowlrers too). How pleased we are to see this and how many unheard abuses do we hear.

Full mark for a very good review. I totally agree with your views on parthiv patel. Had he taken the catch of Hayden, the series would have had a different result.According to me,it is one of the costliest miss and the turning point of the series.
Also the messing of opening slot was the other factor that affected the team...So perhaps these are the things that have to remembered before going for the next series.
Good Luck India For a Better performance against the Proteas...

Cricket is dull
by Raj on Nov 08, 2004 05:43 PM

Has rediff run out of news? Incessant ranting on cricket makes everyone tired. Now that there is a break, how about trying to focus on any other sport? I am sure it wouldn't pinch your pockets.

I agree cricket is addictive, but so is nicotine. Too much of anything is not good. So please for a change let the Indian public read about football or hockey or volleyball. It is painfully annoying to open your web site and read little about anything else. It is high time you got your journalists acquainted with other sports.
