PATEL LOST THE SERIES FOR US
by satish kataria on Nov 09, 2004 09:19 AM  | Hide replies

i firmly believe that it was Patel who lost the series for India. In Chennai we wld have wrapped up the test match on the 4th day itself were it not for the lost chances by Patel. It is not missing of chances which hurts rather it is MISSING OF SIMPLE CHANCES which hurt. Seeing Patel even I thought that I stand a chance of being a India keeper and beat atleast one keeper at that(ur guess is as good as mine). In Nagpur also it was same story. I believe that Aussies won not because they were very good but bcoz they played with 12 men whereas India with 10 (i.e Patel played for the Aussies).
The reason for all this i belive is lack of accountability on part of leadership(read captain, selectors). Why has not Ganguly been sacked because of this is a question which remains unanswered. I think media also has to play more agressive role to play as they can highlight all these things thru the stats.

i think the writer has a personal grudge against ganguly & parthiv.

if sacking of ganguly is the solution, then simply please write a letter to the board.

I fully agree with the writer in that Parthiv Patel should have been out of the Indian Team a long ago. He really is a nuisance for the team. How can a player who hasn't played a single game for his state side play for the country ???? , really amazes me ... I think we should continue with Dinesh Kaarthik and groom him for the future because he is the future of Indian Cricket

When the going gets tough, the tough get going
by Vipin Kunjachan on Nov 09, 2004 04:14 AM

I agree that as far as a cricketer is concerned skill and talent is essential but that alone is not enough.

The Australian team also played the test match in Chennai but it was Mohammed Kaif who just couldn't bare the heat and humidity and collapsed which eventually led to his dismissal.

The players need to be tough both physically and mentally. The sole reason why the Australians are so hard to beat is the professionalism, the grittiness and the toughness that they display. They keep coming at you and unless you show the right temperament by being aggressive you wont even know and the game would be over.

There is very little that the Kumbles and Harbhajans can do when they are bowling to someone like Mathew Hayden ,Andrew Symonds,Chris Cairns, Andrew Flintoff. These guys can mercilessly decimate any bowling attack and change the course of the game within a short time on any day.

why this negativity towards the public?
by Pratap on Nov 08, 2004 11:48 PM  | Hide replies

Mr Lavakre,
With all due respect, it is you people in the media
that create this hype about India being the #2 team
in the world, and then criticize the team when it is
doing badly, and then forget all about it when we get
a consolation victory. Please dont blame the public
in such a sweeping fashion. In fact many of the people
I spoke to are still very disillusioned with the
cricket team and with Ganguly for treating the team
like his own private property. I think the Indian
cricket media is yet to mature and consists largely
of inexperienced/low quality writers with the exception of a few.

i agree with you. media holds some respodnsiblity. Another issue is that, why we expect win evrytime. PARTHIV PATEL was the real villan the amount of catches he dropped was same as a club keeper. Batting was off form, but can someone tell is there any batting in the world which played brilliantly for 2 years and now when last 2-3 months have been bad we want to kill our stars. We need to be balanced in our view.

Core ofour batting needs a look
by Manohar on Nov 08, 2004 09:28 PM

It was really funny man..."non-brahmin tactics" - You know u can never say so... about Dravid.. he was the man who has performed so far irrespective of his form. And in test cricket, you just cant question him... no Tendulkars wud even match him... HE IS THE MASTER... but the so called Indian batting core doesnt boast only of Dravid, poor him.. what shud he do without even a slightest botheration of contribution by others...

How do u think shud he perform... So what is non-brahmin for you ... Test Batting is not at all abt hitting boundaries and sixes... Dravid is a synonym for an ideal test batsman. This shows how inept you guys are in understanding the subtleties of test cricket.

Pls dont make such comments from now on.

some comments.
by sasriniv on Nov 08, 2004 08:36 PM

Arvind,

I dont think reason for lack of accuracy from our bowlers is they dont practice well. Strongly object this point. Just recall how Mcgraths and Gillespies were bowling when Sachin and Laxman were on the crease for a short. Moment batsman adjust to the so called accuracy
in line and length, 1) you cant bowl the same line and length for technical reasons as the once accurate ball would be converted into bad ball. 2) mentally you are in a different state and when batsman gets adjusted.

So why our bowlers are not so accurate. Its simple, any third(or even fourth ??) rated batsmen would try something different when line is so tight and accurate. Its this area that our Indian batsmen lag and cause our bowlers to expose. Historically good batting team not only puts runs on the board but also gives that much extra comfort to the bowlers.

invincibility of aussies
by bala on Nov 08, 2004 08:12 PM

the just concluded sereis has proved that this aussie side are no world beaters. they are as much vulnerable as the other major teams in the world. if the just concluded series is analysed carefully it will be seen that in all the tests including at Nagpur our bowlers did have them in a tangle before they managed to extricate care in part their quality and some of the umpires largesse. why is it that all the umpiring errors always seem to befreind the opposing teams when the aussies are playing.
i do hope some takes note

Required new batsman in opning and middle order slot
by Prasad on Nov 08, 2004 07:01 PM

The middle order in which Laxman And Dravid in recent series looked rusty.. require a change because dravid didn't look confident . He supposed to rotate the strike actully . Test cricket is not blocking u have to make the runs also. Somebody has to tell him that fact . What Mr. Gavaskar had been doing there .
There is replacement required in the place of Laxman simply he was looking like an old man there did not having good body language .
Young man in place of him will be very useful . We have to relook our strategy.
We do not have to forget that this team we having which had brilliant performance in pakistan is due to inclusion of some good young cricketers out there .

Prasad

Rich state of indian cricket Board........ Poor state of Indian cricket team..................
by hitesh.p.desai on Nov 08, 2004 06:23 PM  | Hide replies

hiii to all readers of rediff. like every other individual i too was a passionate cricket watcher and follower of the indian cricket team but looking at te dismmal perfomance of the team i was really ashamed of the state of indian cricket and its player. the commitment to win was lacking from the begining. when u r preapring to play and to win against the world best team u shud have prepared yourself according to it. the cricket board is minting money in advertisement rights and broadcasting rights but no efforts have been made to improve the standard of the indian cricketers. they bowl at u outside the off stump and u edge them to the slips the same old story. today v have latest machine to help us short out the problems but v dont apply to it. before the sereis started have john wright and saurav watched the videos of australia tour of srilanka i think lot of thinghs had to be learnt the way australia prepared it self for the tour they had a planning for each and every batsmen. as of us their new comer batsmen clarke comes in and plays his first test match and scores a century on indian so called turning wickets and aakash chopra yuvraj singh and gautam ghambhir were shameful.
