I think Rajeev is right
by sachin on Jan 08, 2004 10:03 PM

Well, yes hindsight yep Gangauly should have tried something different at the tiome Simon Katich and Gillespie were going strong. The match was actually lost due to their partnership. But saying that the moral victory was nopt worth it is wrong. This drawn test series just went to show that what a strong line up India is. IT set a tome for the other teams to come to Australia and beleive in beating them. It is said that most teams lose a series in Australia even beforer they land due to the sheer imposing record they have. This will no longer be true.It has established a precedent upon which future pastings of Australia will be based. To that extent this series is historic. Years from now when the exact date of Austarlia's decline will be discussed this series, rest assured will come up as one of the first ones. That is a victory moral or otherwise, is it not!!

Encouragement for the one day series
by Zeotype on Jan 08, 2004 06:13 PM

Hope this article came in the eyes of Indian cricket team. So that they can beat Aussies in the upcoming one day series to prove this "bull-headed" critics wrong, as has always been done by Sourav in the recent past.
History will reminisce this lion-hearted Indian team for squaring an away test series against the world champs, but obviously will disregard this sort of "unimaginative" critics.

pathetic Steve Bucknor
by Aakash on Jan 08, 2004 02:14 PM

Dear sir,

I think Steve Bucknor's umpiring in this match has been Pathetic to say the least.Or let me say his whole series has been pathetic considering he is the one who started the slide of Sachin Tendulkar. I can clearly see him being getting carried away with his image.I believe he called up Parthiv Patel & warned him against excessive appealing. I think it's
high time ICC called Mr.Bucknor up & asked him to concentrate on his important job i.e. to
give correct decisions during the game. I am also surprised that this hasn't made the headlines
of Indian Newspapers & newschannels. I think it is still important for all Indians to dig into
this topic deeply. We got to make Mr.Bucknor pay for his mistakes.
Three Cheers to the Indian Cricket team for the successful test series Down under.Jai Hind.

Congrats Indians
by Daniel Rufus on Jan 08, 2004 01:56 PM

Ganguly and the boys did the country proud no matter what decision was made regarding the follow on.
We have to appreciate that.
Now can we talk about some other game that the Indians excelled in!!!!

crap!!
by shalom on Jan 08, 2004 01:39 PM

to be honest with u im a fan of Steve Waugh and have always believed that Ganguly was too cocky. But hey im an Indian too and kudos to Gangu for what he has achieved. He had the guts to stand upto the tactics of the aussies who were too arrrogant fir their own good. That we came to winning in Australia where even the Springboks have sufferred speaks volumes of this team.Saurav wasnt imaginative he was just tense that he had declared too early or too late. And believe me he was right. If hayden and Langer stuck for some more time the series woulda been 2-1 to Aus.

Give them a break author.

Ganguly is a good captain one and he deserves the credit (when ever u writers give him some.)
The series has drwan but how many of had written b4 the series that India would do badly and get whitewashed. Have one of u praised India efforts in the test.
Rather than crticising the palyers go and kick the people who bet bet against an Indian win.
the bookies have no faith in the Indian team why do'nt u complain about tht.

Ganguly did wht he did and it was fine. had he desided on a follow on and the tables had reversed all of u would have not spared one colimn in ur paers to rip them apart.
Grown up and enjpy wht u have and not wht u could have had.

India is shining
all over and bask in its glory.

The Undercurrent
by Balaji on Jan 08, 2004 11:08 AM

The goals of both the teams is entirely different. For Australia, anything other than a victory is termed as a defeat. For India, anything other than a defeat is victory. Hence, India has won the series!!!!!

Imagination!!!
by Ketan on Jan 08, 2004 09:05 AM

Lets imagine that india would have declared early. And then with this bowling lets imagine we lose the match. That would be offcourse a history (scoring 700 plus and losing a test math). But then think about the benefit. Mr Pai and the rediff team would then have a field day discussing about the idocy of the decision for years to come.

Mr Pai i understand that you are sad that india did not play as badly as you guys predicted, but atleast be a bit for professional while showing your sadness. You make your feeling so obvious and your agenda so clear to everyone.

Professionalism Vs Emotions !!!
by DTR on Jan 08, 2004 03:42 AM

I see people writing about Professionalism among Indian cricket players and same people talk about their feelings, emotions, heart.

Here is the bottom line, If a person is truly professional, he would think using his brain, whenever he has to make decisions/tactics etc., and he will not let his heart overtake his brain in his profession.

So professionalism and Emotions never go hand in hand.

India had (and has now) only a very few truly professional cricker players so far, and they never made big progress and didn't make it to captaincy, because Indians don't like truly professional people. That's how Indian culture is wired up.
