Remember Imran's comments?
by Manoj Sharma on Feb 27, 2004 09:43 AM  | Hide replies

A cricketer respected by all opponents and especially Indians, Javed Miandad seems cocky and overconfident as is reflected in his comments on Irfan Pathan.

Imran Khan had made a similar remark about Sachin Tendulkar during the 1992 World Cup, while infamously rating Inzamam-ul-Haq as having more talent than the Mumbai maestro. "We have Sachin Tendulkars in every nook and corner".

It has been amply proved time and again that Inzamam has only one thing more than Sachin - his build. Hopefully, Pathan will also throw the likes of Akhtar and Sami far behind.

Mr. Miandad, you are overlooking something historic that Pathan represents. India is touring Pak and who will potentially open the attack? Zaheer Khan and Irfan Pathan!

Can you dream of having two Hindu bowlers opening the bowling when you tour India? Do you have them in your gullies and corners?

Pathan represents what India ia all about. And the likes of Miandad are true ambassadors of Pakistan!

My dear friend although Imran may had been stupid in his comments about inzy being better that Sachin but remember that Inzy has helped Pakistan win a world cup which sachin has not been able to do yet.
by doing so Inzy has won an OScar for cricket while sachin is winning filmfare awards everyyear. now you tell me which is more prestigious & noteworthy.

before his retirement if sachin helps india win the worldcup he will become an all time greatest batsman even ahead of Sir Don Bradman since Sir Don never played ODI's & u never know whether he could have succeded or failed in the shorter version of the game.

First of all each and every person is scare of others whether its a game or war.

So Mr Miandad keep ur fingers cross and watch the dare devil Indian.

Mr. Miandad: Remember Asia Cup U/19 destruction by Pathan.
by Amar Deshmukh on Feb 26, 2004 05:07 PM

Miandad's comments regarding Indian pacer Irfan Pathan is baised and gross underestimation of his potential. I think Pak coach has a very short memory and picked up wrong bowler at wrong time for criticism. Mr. Miandad, take some trouble to remember India's white washing of Pakistani batting line-up in Asian U/19 tournament at the hands of Irfan Pathan with 9 dismissals in a row. Have forgotten, Mr Miandad, that it was India's Irfan Pathan who lead wicket taker's chart with 16 wickets in the triangular VB Series in Australia? Indian pace duo i.e. experienced Zaheer Khan and agressive Irfan Pathan may prove fatal to relatively inexperienced pak batting line-up.

As far as Indian batting order is concerned, may I advice you to consult your collegue Izaz Ahmmed who has confessed that India has 6-7 batsmen with the class matching to that of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar.

utter rubbish!!!!
by niks on Feb 26, 2004 04:47 PM

i am completely against to what javed miandad has said that pakistan has a upper hand in the coming indo-pak series. He is trying to compare the performances of india in aus to pakistan in new-zealand.he sayss that a young teeam won against new-zealand but let me tell you that new-zealand had many young payers in the team and as far as shoaib aktar and sami is concerned they are never going to be aa big threat to indians coz by their latest performances we witnessed they play beautifully against fast bowling and remember the pitchees in australia were very fast.TO raise one point as said that all the great teams have struggled in pakistan recently the bangladesh series against pakistan they nearly won the game and scored 400 runs inspite of having shaoib in their ranks!!!!!

HI!in my point of view to improve the relations he shouldnt make any untowards comments towards any specific player because that can only generate bad relationship between the teams .Aftewr all playing in pakistan is only just like playing in the backyard for the indians .

Miandad's comments on Pathan
by Anoop on Feb 26, 2004 02:52 PM

I think Miandad's comments on Pathan are unwarranted, comparing him to a local gully cricketer is absoultely pathetic. Clearly, he has not learn the art to speak in public. Sorry Javed, but ur comments leave a bad taste. I laud, Inzi for coming out and saying that a match is a match whether it is India or any other nation. Sadly his coach is trying to create a do or die situation by saying he wants 200% and commenting about the opposition.

If miandad feels his local gully cricketers are better, then as well play with them. Please, let the players on field decide the outcome and for heaven's sake do not make every match look like a war. Please, Javed stop thinking like this some kind of a do-or-die match, it's a game of cricket and may the best team win. And please learn to give respect to your opponents and then the world will give the respect u need.
