Resting of Laxman
by N.C.Padmanabhan on Dec 05, 2004 10:23 AM

It is true that the selectors have done a mistake by dropping Laxman for the one dayers. He should have been dropped for the tests also. What has he done in the recent past that makes him eligible to be included in the Indian team? He may be stylish but does that warrant his inclusion in the team? He has never played well when a god knock was required of him. He was struggling against even Ontong and Hall! His batting was pathetic in the series against Australia. It is time he is dumped and a player like Kaif given more chances. -- N.C.Padmanabhan

regarding laxmans exclusion from one day team
by ramakrishna on Dec 05, 2004 09:32 AM

Sir

HCA ,s objection is very meaningful. They have come in support for laxman when laxman dropped for Worldcup.World cup is very very important for Cricket player. At that moment laxman is palying well .With westindies he scored above 400 runs in onedayers.Despite being the top rungetter in that series,he had beeb dropped for worldcup. This is very bad selection.

laxman is being suffered most of the times.IN worldcup selection team ,their reason is Laxman is poor fielder. If fielding is the standard for selection why Ganguly is playing .He (Ganguly) is not at all deserved a place in the team, either as a fielderor batsman.

Selection committee should say apolize for laxman.

Resting Laxman

There are so many players who have caliber than Laxman, we have to give opportunity to those guys when Laxman is not in form. For me he is not at all a One Day player, Test ok i agreed. Not only Laxman we should drop sachin also from the sqad if continue playing like this. I know these players are Legends but if they are not upto their caliber, there should be no hesitation on dropping them. For example see Australian Board. They are good example for both our players and our board.

HCA questions 'resting' Laxman
by shakeel on Dec 05, 2004 05:48 AM

I reckon HCA is no way right in questioning national selectors for dropping Laxman. Bangladesh is a weaker team and its an oppurtunity to try new talents resting the old guns. India still need some new talents who are consistence in their performance. I also think that the time has come to drop players like tendulkar and ganguly as they hardly give their best and we can't keep a player in a team just because of his previous records. Michael bevan(aus),waqar yunous(pak) and many more are the examples of the players dropped from the teams inspite of tremendous previous records just because they were not able to give their best. Indian population is over 1 billion and everyone is crazy about cricket, I mean everyone loves cricket. I just wonder how come we can't make a team which can easily defeat australia and whereas australia with a population of just 20 million and not many people love cricket, can be the world champions. Its time to think and act.

Dropping Laxman

As the saying goes 'give respect and earn respect, a cricketer has to play well, with commitment and passion and earn a place in the team. Laxman does not have either. He is living on 'past glory' and it is high time he had realised that.

A true sportsman should follow the example of Adam Parore, who gracefully dropped himself, after a lot of unearned chances, as he realised that he was not performing upto expectations of the selectors and satisfaction of himself.
