spinners
by anjum gilani on Sep 20, 2003 03:13 PM

i think r powar bowled really well in this match & seeing this he can be certainly in consideration for the newzealand series.the failure of laxman was disheartning.i think it is very important that the indians find the right combination of spinners for the newzealand series for this is their main strength at home.
thank you

poor captaincy
by Muralidhar Rao on Sep 20, 2003 02:20 PM

Once again Ganguly has shown eveybody what a tactless captain he is. Winning the toss and and opting to field. Not bowling Balaji when he took 2 wickets in 6 overs in the 2nd. Not being asked to bowl after that. Was Balaji injured? Ganguly's blatant stupid bowling changes, his unimaginative field settings, his inept batting etc. Ganguly is India's captain only because he is Dalmiya's Godson. Does India need this expendable fellow in the longer version of the game? He is certainly a liability. He is good for one dayers maybe. Even there he is slipping. It would be better for India if Ganguly gets injured and is out of action for some time.

ganguly should be sacked
by avik on Sep 20, 2003 12:18 PM

well after seeing the first two days of the irani trophy, one can only come to the conclusion that both the batting and the captaincy of the overrated indian captain left much to be desired. well we dont expect ganguly to even come close to matching the little master with the bat,but at least he was expected to score over tendulkar in the field of captaincy.to me tendulkarn outshone the"prince of kolkata" in every aspect of the game.well sourav has to pull up his socks quickly or hell be replaced by some youngster who will talk less and deliver more

the mumbai kadoos spirit is there for all to see. they have limited rest of ind. to 95 runs short of their first innings. now they will score well in the second innings and on a wearing pitch finish off rest of india in the fourth innings. i'm sure tenlya will win the match for mumbai.

major mistake
by Umesh Gawande on Sep 20, 2003 10:10 AM

In the heading of this column there is major mistake, the name of a person is written as POWAR, it should be PAWAR. Inside the story it does not matter, sometimes due to printing problem it may happen.
Is it done delebrately? I do not think so........

So from next time please avoid such mistakes.

Ganguly's performance
by Mux on Sep 20, 2003 09:55 AM

Saurav needs to perform. His performance is most inconsistent and is not fit to be in the team, leave aside being the captain of India. Indian cricket being so competitive there should be no place for politicians like Ganguly.

Harbhajan's Dismissal
by Arpan on Sep 20, 2003 04:40 AM

The way Harbhajan plotted his own dismissal,he should be suspended for at least one Test match,if not more. I won't deny the fact that the other batsmen in the Rest Of India team also batted irresponsibly & in the process got out but Harbhajan should be punished 'coz of the manner in which he got out. As it is, when Harbhajan came into bat, Rest Of India were tottering & on the verge of collapse. Under these circumstances when Harbhajan should have batted sensibly (everyone knows he can bat) he just gave away his wicket trying to play an over-ambitious shot. Utter callousness!!!

Irani Cup-Day 2
by Raju on Sep 19, 2003 07:32 PM

One important point that missed mention was Tendulkar's field placing. It was as though he has more than 450 to defend. How many times have we seen three slips, two gullies, one point and mid-off for a dashing batsman like Sehwag in India? This kind of attacking field led to the dismissal of Sehwag. The bowlers too largely bowled to the field, save a few leg-side sprayings by Salvi initially. The field placement for Yuvraj was also very imaginative. Some wickets that fell actually belonged to the captain, to his field placement. This is not to say that Ganguly should be replaced by Sachin as India's captain, but to wonder Sachin's cricketing brain. Only point of worry(?!?!) was that Kiwi coach was watching all the plots and sub-plots from both sides, especially Sachin's moves to capture his Indian teammates' wickets.
