Challenger

For India in one day internationals only Tendulkar, Dravid, Sehwag and Ganguly have been consistent. Kaif and Yuvraj surprise us once in a while. Is this because the others players are scared of the seniors? Are the seniors' attitude responsible for the total apathy of the other batsmen? This trend has been going on for several years now which does not do good for Indian cricket. Why are the lesser known players treating Tendulkar like he is some God? After all this icon from Mumbai chokes without fail at crunch time. His pathetic record in New Zealand last year proves that Tendulkar can be as mediocre as the others. Tendulkar did well during the world cup last year but in the final against Australia, he failed as expected.

challenger

The main reason Challenger does not attract crowds in India is because of the teams that participate are chow-chow teams which are totally meaningless. For example India seniors does not really represent the India senior team. Tendulkar, Dravid, Kumble, Agarkar, Yuvraj, Kaif, Dinesh etc who represent India seniors are not in the senior team. To bring life to this series which has developed rigor mortis since its inception, foreign teams like Bangla Desh, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Canada and a few others should be invited instead of shuffling Indan players around who have no interest in the game. I agree with Kartik regarding Faisal's blatant disregard for Sriram's innings of 77. Faisal made a big hype over Laxman's innings of 30 plus 2 catches. Ain't it typical of Laxman to score a breezy 20 plus and get back to the dressing room. As Kartik has stated Faisal has to let go personal favouritsm and report events impartially. Anybody following Indian one day cricket knows full well that Rohan and Sriram are more useful to India international seniors than the likes of Laxman or Dinesh Mongia who have been consistent failures.

Challenger Cup-2003
by KIRAN JOSHI on Sep 12, 2003 10:49 AM

The performance of Sanjay Bangar in the 2 matches he played for Seniors has proved that even if he is slow starter he can be a asset for the team in the ODI'S. It seems that Ganguly is lost in his own thoughts on the ground. He is off color in his performance in the present Challenger cup. May be he is pushing youngsters to prove their worth. The zeal of Dravid, Kumble and Tendulkar is not there in Ganguly.
