Poor
by Owen on Nov 07, 2003 08:24 PM

We have one of the best batsman in the world with all the centuries, yet we are not the best side. There is somthing wrong. I can not blame the players alone. It is collective failure of the board, selectors, team management, players and "media". They all have to work as a unit to improve things. I am a great fan of Indian cricket, but loosing interest day by day. I'm one among many, utimately in future all will suffer.

we are mighty indians
by praveen on Nov 07, 2003 01:44 PM

why does indias middle order crumble so easily? kaif and yuvraj just do not seem to long last. they are such cool batsmen and everybody remebers the match when they brought us victory. why cant they do that again. this is a challenging series and in our homeland. if we are true indians we must win this series and show the mighty aussies that we are the tigers and will always excel

India's disastrous performance in the TVS Cup
by Pratap on Nov 07, 2003 12:29 PM

Who says India are unbeatable in their homeland ? It is all a hype.It is better the media stop all this hype and write realistically.Let us agree that the Indians as a team are very poor though individually they may be talented ( on paper !!! ) .Just beating some weak teams will not count much.If Indians have guts let them beat tough teams like New Zealand,Australia..Cricket is not about individual players. As a team you have got to perform.
Much is talked about Tendulkar,Dravid and co.Unless they play together and sensibly( renouncing individual achievements ) Indians will remain 'paper tigers as they are now.So throw away the records and try to put up a better performance next time.
Lose if you must but with a fight atleast !!!
Lets hope the New Zealand vs Australia final in Eden Gardens will be an exciting contest.

India's poor performance
by Pratap on Nov 07, 2003 11:27 AM

Yet again the world's greatest batsmen on paper have proved that they are the greatest batsmen on paper as far as statistics is concerned. No doubt all the statistics of Tendulkar ,Dravid an co very flowery but none were sufficient to gain a victory for India. The Indians can neither set a total nor chase under lights. The poor application of Indian battters was very horrible to see.Dravid ,Laxman ,Kaif need to learn from McMillan and Styris. And the bowlers plight seems to continue from the test series against New Zealand in India.I think it is going to be a New Zealand vs Australia finals in Eden Gardens. Why should it not be so.Indian team is not worth to play in the final.
Why so much hype about such a low standard team ?
Why

Appreciate the efforts of Kaif
by Meraj Ahmed on Nov 07, 2003 10:55 AM

Once again Kaif has shown that when a job is entrusted to him, he executes it with great dedication. The match report by Ashish Magotra says his timing was awry and all that but he is not realising that Kaif is one batsman whose batting order is always tempered with & it's not easy to come up and down the order.

He was doing reasonably well at 2 down but in the tri series he has been again pushed down the order. For Yuvraj, Mr. Magotra says that "Waiting in the dressing is never easy and, maybe, that got to Yuvraj Singh. Too often have we seen batsmen come out and try to play their shots from ball one. And in equal measure, we have seen those batsmen dismissed."

Yes it it true but then it is true for Kaif also. He has done more waiting in the dressing room than anybody else. Batting at no. 7 indeed demands a lot of waiting in the dressing room and he has played that great Lords knock in those waiting circumtances.

So, dear Ashish ji, consider all facts and appreciate the performance of kaif and encourage him. Only yesterday Ganguli has said that Kaif is a great team man. And more than anything, we are badly in need of team man.

Missing points
by jaggi on Nov 07, 2003 03:47 AM

Mr Ashish Magotra,

I am pretty disappointed at this match report, which has absolutely no depth. You seem to be like Maninder Singh, who made a great point. His advice to the bowlers was to "bowl well". Yeah.. great advice. It probably took him all these years to come out with that wonderful piece of advice. Similarly, you don't seem to go deep into the game.

First of all, there was no mention about the 70 dot balls from Kaif. Kaif's innings was scratchy and till the very end couldn't force the pace.
Badani on the other hand, hit some pretty good shots, under the circumstances. Its not fair when players like Kaif get a million chances and guys like Karthik and Badani, get only one game to prove themselves.

In Tendulkar's case, the ball was definitely going down the leg. The kiwi's never really appealed loudly. Jayaprakash, in the earlier game against Aussies, didn't give Tendulkar out LBW to a ball that would have definitely hit mid-leg.

You never talked about all the close LBW decisions that were not given when Karthik was bowling. A few of them, of Mc Millan were right in front.
I have reached the max size allowed to reply, else had more. Please stop writing.
