Team selection
by Dilip Mahanty on Apr 03, 2003 06:49 AM

While it is good that some youngsters like Gambhir, Salvi, Mishra are being tried, the selectors were not fair to Chopra & Rayudu. Kale has been in the domestic scene for over 10 years and deserved consideration earlier not towards the end of his career. His place should have been taken by Chopra. Mongia & Agarkar are surely the luckiest cricketers around! They get selected whether they perform or not. Ruyudu should have been in place of Mongia as the youngster would have got good exposure playing for the national team. After all Tendulkar started very young and look where he is now!
Fielding being so important in One dayers, the selectors should keep in mind this aspect too in future selection process. The best players should be taken in the national team no matter from which part of the country they come.A quota system does not help anybody!

i m impressed by his performance and he should be given a chance so as to array a nursery of pace bowlers for the future also reg the selcection panel yes they really are a bunch of jokers suddenly after the world cup dinesh mongia has regained his form and it would not be suprising to see him play all matches in dhaka ignoring him and giving a chance to new players

by Hopeful for future! on Apr 01, 2003 03:00 PM

It's high time we started looking beyond the same old team. Infuse fresh blood and get Ghambir, Chopra and Salvi in, so that we remain competitive!

The role of the manager - India' A 's tour of West Indies
by Anoop Bhaskar on Apr 01, 2003 12:51 PM

Having folowed the travails of the India A team in the West Indies on the West Indian cricket Board's excellent web site - windiescricket.com (hello BCCI, India the home of IT, where is your web site?).

The most striking feature of the tour was the "rotation" ploicy of the team management. While such a move needs to be lauded during the initial matches, the same was applied eve for the crucial match against Windies B. As a result, L balaji who had bowled well in the fourth match and also come up with a stubborn knock in the fourth inning of the match ensuring a win for the Indians was replaced by Baroda Paceman Rakesh Patel. Patel bowled only five overs in the first innings during which he was was "no-baled" 15 times. Surely, one of the main factors which led to Indians not qualifying for the Semis of the caribs Tournament was this faulty selection.

Will the Board take any decision against the team management? Or will the position of manager/Coach be based on the "mai baap" system with Mr. Dalmiya acting as the overlord?

we should have tried new players
by H.Kannan on Mar 31, 2003 07:24 PM

it was a right time to test new and young players in our country .but what do our selectors do . they picked the same tried and tested failed players on this tour. the present selectors are a bunch of selfish fools. how can they explain picking venky prasad , deep das gupta, mohanty in world cup probables. how can they explain the selection of laxman who cant play in seaming & bouncing conditions like gaguly. or for that matter ajay ratra . lille, dennis regards IRFAN PATHANof baroda asone of the quickest and good bowlers in india right now . and this poor guy was not even selected for the tour . can anyone reply.
