ex-players are jealous of what steve has achieved and the way he's continuing. if ex-players underestimate BAN then what will michael clarke prove by scoring a century against BAN. he should score a century or guide AUS to victory against india in india.
if u ask steve is there anytthing that will give u more pleasure than winning the world cup?? His answer would be perhaps "YES".THE ANSWER WOULD BE BEATING INDIA IN INDIA.all u guys who are waiting for his retirement , he will not until he achieves this (unless he is forced to ). so u guys have to wait until late 2004.
The steel never gets rusted so is our very own Steve 'steely' Waugh.I cannot see anyone else taking his position in the near future.I know Aussies have more efficient player than him right now,but what you need more from Waugh is not his playing skils but his cricketing brain.Someone has said that A captain is as good as his team,so even Waugh is not there it wont make much difference. But what you need is character and managing skills of Waugh. Players of Waugh calibre comes once in a century so you should cherish his playing days and not by criticising. WAUGH WAH WAH!!!
It is ridiculous to ask Steve to retire from the Test Cricket.
Steve is as good as 10 years ago. His captaincy is very good and as a player he is contributing very well.
Why the former players of cricket criticise the present players about playing or non-playing. Is it a jealousy of the former players to criticise the present players.
Look at the record of Steve and look at the average of Steve and comment on his continuing the job as an Australian Cricketer as well as the Australian Test Captain.
who says steve is too old to retire. anyone who says so has to be out of his mind. it will be hard to replace a guy of steve's character and personality and his past performance has been proved. its unlikely that anyone in the present team has the ability to replace him fully leave alone in the whole of australia.
This was the case with many players like Kapil Dev, Ranatunga, Salim Malik, Mark Waugh, Richards, etc.. It is better that these old players retire gracefully with dignity rather than being dropped from the team and forced to retire.
There is no point discussing the retirement of other players as long as we are having the tonns of problem with indian cricket. Does the retirement of Steve makes life easiar for indian cricket?

Well mate(Ravindra), we r not worried about the MIGHTY OZ team , we r worried about the game CRICKET, we would like to see more of things happening in cricket, well when i mean more things i meant GOOD THINGS.......and whats happening to STEVE is not fair.......both for HIM & as well as for the GAME CRICKET.....HE WILL REMAIN AS ONE OF THE BEST CAPTIAN CRICKET HAS EVER SEEN if he goes on winning....well that will be SOME thing for any captian to AIM at. This will mean the of the game will be more competitive & exciting.
How about young guns getting more exprience from the pro about how to handle pressure in the middle in the REAL PLAY..while other batsmen like Lehman & Hayden rest as this is a BANGLESH TEAM....well some people will try anything to get to media & demoralise STEVE WAUGH.....
It's not about indian cricket but cricket
by Satyajeet on Jun 26, 2003 03:09 PM
It's not about what indian cricket will gain from steve's retirement but what the cricket community will lose from his retirement. It's not about hating steve or getting rid of him but to respect for his hard work and mental toughness with which he has taken cricket to a new advanced level which his cricketing peers are finding it hard to keep pace with.
