The Article on Sunny written beautifully and all facts/statistics have been captured in the article. In my opinion Sunil Gavaskar was a champion batsman who stood bravely against all fearsome opponents including windies. Due to the efforts of Sunny, professionalism in Indian cricket was inducted and players started getting better pay packets and facilities. Every Indian is proud of Sunny's feat that were achieved by him on and off the cricket field.
I see in the comments section most readers have jumped to complain about the column ignoring Laxman's innings. Even only one has responded back to someone's comment and has pointed out that rediff says Sunny's is the second highest. (Rediff infact says Sunny's is the second highest highest, not sure why second highest would not have sufficed.) Others did not even respond to the wrong criticism. Some have even, while criticising rediff for the 'misfacts' themselves stated Laxman's innings as 280 or 282 while the correct number of runs scored was 281. Please read carefully before jumping at the opportunity to criticise someone or something.
Gavaskar who is wee known for his technique and temperament to hold the innings long.Unfortunatley sinec his retirement India had not produced such a opener until now. This is a very sad thing and everytime when i read about opener's skill I still remember his playing days.
Gavaskar had the best technique, temperament and tenacity to achieve individual goals that many people did not even think were possible for any Indian. He is the real little master.
There is an error where it has been stated by rediff that 236 scored by SMG is the highest runs scored by any indian test player, I suppose that record is hold by VVS Laxam,he has scored 280 runs against Austrelia.
