There is an error where it has been stated by rediff that 236 scored by SMG is the highest runs scored by any indian test player, I suppose that record is hold by VVS Laxam,he has scored 280 runs against Austrelia.
Its really heartening to see Rediff publish an Article on sunny and his factfiles. I would also recommend to publish articles about more circketers like gundappa vishvanath, eknath solker and more old cricketers. But one small mistake rediff is doing everytime. And eventhough there have been a lot complaints for that it seems rediff is not so interested in changing it also. Acutally it spoils the whole essence of the article. Yes its the same.... Get you basics right and keep the facts up to date.
It says Gavaskars 236 is the highest score by an Indian till date.
So where the hell does Laxman's classy Innings of 282 stand? The sad point is that it was scored at 2001, almost 2 years back and still rediff hasnt updated it.
Sir, Just wanted to point out that Sunny's 236 not out against West Indies at Madras no longer is the highest individual Indian score in Tests. That distinction is now held by Laxman for his marathon innings of 281 against the Aussies at Eden Gardens, Calcutta.

Gavaskar was an opener, and Tendulkar bats in the middle order. So Sunny faced a different challenge. Better not compare the two. Each is great in his own position.
I wish him a great 54 birthday. He has been so successful for India. I hope he will help India to be successful for years to come.
Quote from your Article His unbeaten 236 against the West Indies at Madras in 1983 still remains the highest individual score by an Indian in Tests. Interestingly, it was his only three-figure score of his Test career in the middle-order position - he batted at number four.
My Comments.
I hope V V S Laxman as scored the highest no. of runs in a test for India . It was with Australia in 2001 in calcutta.
RE:''236'' is highest score by Indian till date?

"His unbeaten 236 against the West Indies at Madras in 1983 is the second highest highest individual score by an Indian in Tests. " is what rediff quotes!!!!! Dont know whats the confusion?!??! And BTW this article is an excellent factfile. Would love to see comparison of such factfiles expecially of the big guns like Sachin and Sunny or Azza and sunny and so on.
In your article, you mentioned that Gavaskar holds highest score in a single test innings for India (236 Not Out). It is actually VVS Laxman (281 against Australia).
Sunil Gavaskar was indeed one of the greatest players ever seen in the world of cricket. The factfile clearly bears out that he probably more than anyone else deserved the tag of the Indian cricketer of the century. There is one small mistake in the factfile though w.r.t. his 236* which was indeed the highest score by an Indian in a test innings for a long time, but has since been eclipsed by the mammoth 281 that VVS Laxman got at Eden Gardens against Australia in 2001.
" His unbeaten 236 against the West Indies at Madras in 1983 still remains the highest individual score by an Indian in Tests. Interestingly, it was his only three-figure score of his Test career in the middle-order position - he batted at number four. "
hello!!! somebody please give credit where credit is due....one Mr. VVS Laxman now holds the record of highest score in a test inningsand not sunil gavaskar for his 236...remember the 281 at the eden gardens...
" His unbeaten 236 against the West Indies at Madras in 1983 still remains the highest individual score by an Indian in Tests"... What about V.V.S. Laxman?
