Bhiwani boys we are proud of your achievement!

Jai Bhawani, Jai Bhiwani!

I guess we would have done still better if some of the boxers were NOT talking to the media. Never let small victories go to head.

Let GOLD be the objective. Let your PUNCHES do the TALKING in the RING. IGNORE THE MEDIA, OTHERWISE IT CAN EASILY KILL YOUR CONCENTRATION.

JITENDER, DO NOT LET THE MEDIA COME NEAR YOU UNTIL YOU WIN THE GOLD.

Yaar crazy ....Jitender cant win Gold man. What are you saying... He lost Quarter Final.

Only Vijender can win Gold for India. Because he is in Semifinals already and if he wins and enters Finals he can win there a Gold.

Please wake up and update yourself with latest news yar.

Well one thing that was noticeable about todays quarterfinal bouts was the way electronic media highlighted it.almost all news channel were telecasting live coverage of the above haul.Nobody was discussing about the victory of indian cricket team, about the ,match ka mujrim ,etc. etc all that nonsense stuff about cricket.Today is a great day in history of indian sports not only because we won accolades in sports but because that indicates our freedom from tha shackles of cricekt towards another genre of sports where we can have tons of unexplored talents. And we can be a great to reckn with in this form of non violent competition.Ten cheers not only to vijendra but also to akhil ,saina nehwal and ofcourse to bindra beside other sportsman/woman who atleast took the initiative to divert the attention of this cricket afflicted nation towards some unexplored terrioraties.

Impose some tax on BCCI's profit and Use it in other games
by Sudharma Banerjee on Aug 20, 2008 08:40 PM  | Hide replies

Cricke is most popular game in India. BCCI, the cricket control board are earning too much money and their profit is too high. That money they are spending to set up any infrastruture. Govt. can impose 40-50% tax on their income and spend it in other games like Boxing, wrestling, swimming. Govt can impose same amount of tax on Cricketer's income and use it to set up a good infrastruture for other games.

Get rid of politicians and those multi term presidents of these sports bodies. They have swindled enough, and do not care for sports.

Let eminent sportsmen manage with professional help. Let there be stringent audit on funds utilization.

agreed. some BCCI guy-ratnakar shetty in the IBN news said that they would invest 25crores over the next three years to train athletes and oencourage other sport personnel-dont know how far we could believe in his words, but atleast he said.

It is shocking to see that ministers etc., have started announcing incentives , grants , promotions now itself before semis / finals are being played? This will act as disincentive and he will become overconfident and may lose semis? If he reaches finals and wins gold / silver will these govt increase incentive ?? why can't they have patience and in the time encourage for better performance -- Smart Intelligent 2007

Wow , very well done Vijender. Indian boxing has truly come of age with Akhil Kumar and Vijender Kumar.

Their feats have proved that Indian boxers are among the best in the world.

Well done ,Vijender, we are proud of you.

Abhinav for shooting, Sushil for wrestling, Vijender for boxing...

With these three conquering warriors being the flavour of the time, this Olympics is indeed a trailblazer for Indians.

Medal Confirmed How?
by Guest on Aug 20, 2008 08:35 PM  | Hide replies

Hey..how is Jitender's medal confirmed? He reached semifinals. In my opinion if he loses in Semis then he will fight in Bronze medal match and only after winning that he can claim a bronze. Is there no bronze medal match? Do Both semifinalist get Bronze medal in Boxing category? Please respond.

There is no fightoff for the third place in contact sports in Olympics. Hence two bronze is given to the people who loose their bout in SF. This is true also for wrestling and judo.

There is no bronze medal matches in Boxing so both the losing semi-finalists get the bronze. I saw the fight more than his punches it is the way he evaded the opponent's attack with deft footwork that was beautiful to watch. At least now let government think of building a decent road to Bhiwani.

Please all Indian public, who ever has respect for our Olympic medalists and participants please, please buy all the products endorsed by Abhinav Bindra, Sushil Kumar, Vijender Kumar, Akhil Kumar, Saina Newal, Paes and Bhupati…

Please quit buying the products endorsed by our Cricketers and Bollywood actors.

If our corporate companies find a difference in the sales by this, they will for sure fund more money to these sports and our Olympic medalists and participants will be rewarded like what they should.

This is my request to all our Indians

Message well put and well received. Can we get some info about what products for instance, our Olympians endorse? (I seriously doubt they get any kind of endorsement deals..they may be self sponsored which is what makes their achievements that much more admirable)

Excellent point you made Vijay Sinha. I hope that culture slowly starts creeping into our country. Already Michael Phelps of USA has got endorsements worth millions of dollars for winning those 8 Golds in Olympics.

Same way we need to also support our Olympians and encourage them and see them in some TV ads and not only buy their products but also tell about these guys to our little kids and inspire them (the new generation) for trying their best in various sporting disciplines to qualify for and participate in future Olympics.

I would surely love to see ABHINAV BINDRA in a Children's health drink Ad and say Sushil Kumar or one of these 3 "Boxing" Kumar's of India in some good Ads. Vijender is handsome enough to do a Designer suitings or a Shampoo Ad too.

But these guys should surely not endorse junk foods and should come in those Ads which promote health and healthy products which make healthy strong sportsmen and motivates everyone for a healthy India.
