Do not be deceived by western benchmarking, spirit and soul cannot be benchmarked.Benchmarking of happiness is ridiculous, its a state of mind depending on the individual.
Whats fine with west need not be fine with me, applying a benchmark on happines will make the world a dull place to live.
A Finnish Mother Teresa found more happiness in filth of Calcutta than in Finland.
Be happy, love all, purify self from hatred greed and live well.

Dengue comes to calcutta in rounds. After many deaths the minister of health said we have to accept that some of our citizens will die in dengue!!! The organizations/people who should ensure local cleanliness in such serious conditions, still kolkatans romanticise their poverty and filth. This is India.

Yeah mother teresa got many 'bakras' waiting for her freebies in calcutta. Dont fool yourself. India is in shambles because of indisciplined and petty behaviour of indians. Of course many things in India is great, but we have to improve a lot lot more to achieve a decent healthy lifestyle for all, ensured by all.

People overreact about caste. Honestly, most people don't care much about castes in day to day life as some caste-phobic people project it to be.
Re: Re: Casteism

Thats in urban india. Lack of information, suppression of women and children by village patriarchs made life hell in rural india. Obviously casteism flourishes in environment of ignorance.

"Lack of information, suppression of women and children by village patriarchs" - these problems are not because of caste. People off all catses suffer from these problems. It is out of illeteracy that we face these problems in rural India.

Try marrying someone of another caste or religion and you will find out what personal freedom means.

Go to Finland and try to marry a Finnish women see if they are very friendly. Also while you are there eat dog meat in open and see if you are welocmed by them. These type of things don't count as personal freedom.
Re: Re: Average ranking in governance and personal freedom

You mean people in Finland can marry anyone they want. Give me a break personal freedom I am talking about is restrictions placed on citizens by their governments not what the culture and tradition restricts. Also, Thank god you did not say try to marry 10 women and find out what personal freedom means.

this only shows your poor understanding of the matter. Don't you come to know about news in every day life how common people of India are subjected to harassment from the government agencies including getting killed in police fake encounters?

How come you and I are still alive if that is the case. let us not show exceptions as a rule.

Also inspite of having public toilets, urinate anywhere is personal freedom :)

Whether these things are good or bad you are not killed or put in jail for doing those things and so you have more freedom in India.

Walk in the middle of the roads when the traffic lights are green and the vehicles try to pass escaping you is also personal freedom.

Very well said, all three of you. Not abiding by any norms, being indiciplined of the highest order is personal freedom, which we enjoy in India. Molest/staring at girls in buses, listening to others conversations in neighbourhood, spread cowdung cakes in middle of the highways for drying, not abiding by any damn rules of roads, spitting even inside public building(!!), suggesting far-off relatives to marry within 'caste' all marks our personal freedom. In one sentence, curbing others freedom is Indian individual freedom!

What is there to feel sorry? They are reaping what they have sown all these years. Bred on the culture of hatred they breed hatred everywhere.
