@liverinshanghai,
we do not hate chinese, but are only worried about the aggressive chinese postures. We are just being cautious and would want to defend against any communist misadventure.

Hello Chinese Gentleman, INDIAN are basically peace loving people and would never hate anybody. We are a beleiver in Ghandhian philosophy (Mahatama Ghandhi is the Father of the Nation)who beleived in non-volience,living in hate free society and co-exsisting peaceful. But for sure Chinese are general not trustworthy, they act very soft, kind, polite and naive. But moment they get a chance to talk they start talking politics and start asking question about china whether what is your impression about china whether supper power or not. This you will not find among INDIAN. They never discuss polities and bring national topic in any conversation. Once they treat somebody a friend whether he chinese or a traitor to his nation he will still be good to him. Indian generally feel happy for china and feel comfortable as there is so much similarity in the culture. For sure there is so much one can learn from each other. There is good and bad in both side of the fence. China can learn lot from INDIA and vice versa. Good Luck my friend. Don't live in suspecious and denial like some of your silly country people. God Bless your country but you have to go a very long way. Beijing, Shanghai,Guangzhou, Hangzhou & Shenzhen is not the world. All that glitters is not always GOLD.

Hello Liverinshanghai

India does not hate China. Infact China and India as oldest civilisations have coexisted for milleniums. Only since the development of chinese-pakistani "all weather" friendship, has doubts started creeping in Indian mindset. China knows about India-Pakistan rivalry, but inspite of that assisted Pakistan with missile and nuclear tech. Also gifting away J-10's etc.. Inspite of whatever happening (Political failure) in 1962 (India-China war), we harbour no ill will against chinese. Also chinese government's recent actions in many forums have been worrying for us, for example, blocking aids for development, vetoing naming lashkar as terrorist organisation etc...

You want to know why? Because India used to be a colony of Britain. The ruling class is this country still admire the British culture and they view the world through the lens of their previous master's.
But you really do not need to worry because this is a land of chaos and filth.

nothing wrong in being alert!
by george bush on Jan 08, 2010 11:00 AM

There is nothing better than settling disputes thru' peaceful negotiations, But there is nothing wrong in being prepared for the worst either. As the saying goes "Chance favours prepared minds", even though the indian defence establishment has realised this late, but its not too late either, and have rightly revised their defence stratergy to meet dual threats, quiet an aggressive and ambitious one but very essential for our very survival. At the sametime since india does not have credible second nuclear strike capabilities, we should shun our "no first use" policy also, so that our enemies should think twice before indulging in any misadventure just like we do.

Japan, Taiwan, and The Rest
by Phil on Jan 08, 2010 10:50 AM  | Hide replies

First off, it is nice to see so many people discuss about India, hoping to make a change.

I feel that India is still not ready to take on China. If a war broke out, China has the upper hand. However, India can strengthen it's ties with China's enemies like Japan and Taiwan. They must become our brothers. India also must be more supportive of the Tibetan causes. India must explain to the Muslim world that they are not the enemy. Muslims in India live free, able to practice their faith. They must show the world the plight of the Uighurs in China.

Only by fostering good relationships with your family will India be able to succeed. Not with one child.

if India want to strengthen it's ties with Taiwan, first India need to establish diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

But, however, India havent courage to do it.

We must understand the difference in the threat levels of the two front.....

In out Western front we face our CIVILISATIONAL THREAT....
in our norther front we face a political threat...
so the response will be different in both the cases....

Mosquito and an Elephant
by mar gaya on Jan 08, 2010 09:20 AM  | Hide replies

As far as defence capabilities are concerned China is an element and India a tiny mosquito. I don't think that elephants will lose any sleep thinking about mosquito bites. They do realize that mosquitoes cause malaria, so they will always use anti-mosquito spray, that's all. If Chinese elephant decided to attack India to solve the mosquito problem once and for all, entire north India will become part of China, and there will be no need for a visa to go from Chandni Chowk to China.
