Pure bullshit
by Hebbar R on Aug 11, 2010 03:12 PM

In the interest of the nation tough steps need to be taken. Tough problems need tough solutions and Kashmir has been allowed to simmer for political gains (on both sides of the border) for a very long time making any other solution almost impossible. One needs to take lessons from China on how to handle situations that are against the Govt/Nation.

Kashmir
by Ratna Prasad on Aug 11, 2010 02:45 PM

The Kashmir persona is imbibed with hatred for India and Indians since a long long time. It is doubtful that such deep seated alienation can overcome in the forseeable future. The situation however could have been better handled by the Central Government which totally responsible for the current state of affairs in the state.

brilliant new thoughts
by Devdutt Nayak on Aug 11, 2010 02:17 PM  | Hide replies

Mr. Salim Haq, you sir, are a genius.

Although I have no exact idea of the ground realities in Kashmir (what we see on TV is just the visible outbursts, not the long term unseen cause) this sort of innovative thinking is the thing that will produce an effective solution.

Something like the magical transfer of IPL to South Africa - that was a genius move.

Once in a while Rediff gets someone to post brilliant *new* thinking.

This is another example.

A huge roadblock however is that of the "justice mechanism" which is nearly a failure.

It does encourage criminals to reform themselves, just makes them more hardened criminals. Kiran Bedi was a genius and Tihar was magic.

But it is not replicated on a scale that it should have been.

Same here - there were brilliant ideas - finalyl allowing technology into Kashmir, withdrawing the Army, and so on. But it must go hand in hand with civil reform.

This country will not be happy until justice is merely for punishment, not for improvement and reform.

Repeated torture is acceptable in one lifetime, but reform of criminals is not?

The constant lookout of a king to make his subjects' lives incrementally better, simply does not exist on this sub-continent.

That is your innermost core problem for you.

Fix that attitude, and India will prosper like never before.

Again, this article is a masterpiece.
Great job.

Kiran Bedi should be Social Affairs minister.

General kayani was from 1971 batch which surrendered to India - he is the culprit looking for revenge. Fixing him is not Kiran Bedi's job she can only reform small time pick pockets from Kafir religions..

you seem to underestimate the power of compassion, especially of Indian women.

They are not as stupid as your sexy American babes.

It is we, men of India, who have ruined India.

It is the same around the world, including USA (more so), but that does not mean we continue ignoring the real life force of our country - our women.

It is very painful to see educated / trained Indian women aim for status and prestige in corporate life, rather than doing justice to their exclusive gift of compassion and wisdom - and using it to change the world.

When educated Indian women hanker for high heels and tight skirts, they have forgotten their labour pains and the labour pains of Mother India.

Kiran Bedi is a supremely inspiring example of how the beauty of Indian educated women is not in the face and hips, but in the heart and mind.

Oh by the way, IMHO, the oen particular idea of Lata Mangeshkar singing the song is not wise at all.

That would be rubbing salt into their wounds.

We treat Kashmir like property not family.

And we cant continue doing so.

We even need ordinary people volunteering to go to Kashmir to set up companies / shops / standard social and economic entities present in a vibrant peaceful society.

The problem is, among those civilians shouting against Pakistan or Muslims, there are very few who will themselves agree to migrate to Kashmir to do something useful over there.

And the Govt only wants to send armed uniformed Indians.

If Kashmir is a part of India, then Kashmiris are our family.

We dont seem to think that way.

Same for Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram.

Roja was a great movie for just that purpose. And it is now over 15 years since the movie was released.

Still no real computer scientists willing to risk their lives in Kashmir.

And all of us are willing to send soldiers to die fighting terrorists and Pakistan army.

And we call ourselves patriotic for thinking like this.

If you really love a girl, you will also help her if she loses a limb in an accident.

What we are doing is keeping her married to us, we covet her beautiful body, but we do not pay attention to her pain.

This is not love, it is covetousness.

Frankly, We dont deserve the beautiful girl called Kashmir.

CRPF should make love not war
by jaggu on Aug 11, 2010 02:16 PM  | Hide replies

CRPF should make love not war- after shooting the stone throwers they should do islamic Mutah or temperory marriage with women of this valley. AFter that they can impose 30 years curfew and from this will rise the next generation of lovable Kashmiris.

their mothers will pass the milk of hate from their brests , buddy.

Prima noctus is an old concept , but a better one wuold be forced sterilization of muzzie boys and girls with inadequate supply of relavent drugs.
Not one of these solutions is humanitarian , but it may be effective in quelling this trouble spot , without the high jingoistic military attacks

What they really mean by political situation?
by Sports Lover on Aug 11, 2010 02:16 PM

They have their own chief minister own police and also special benefits which no other state in India has.
Military is there to control insurgency from across the LOC.
Military is even here is in punjab as we are have a border with pak.

Why don't they (military) kill us?

Because we are living peacefully.

Should be the same wih kashmiris.
