Sooner than later Chinese to bolster the nationalistic fervour amongst the Han Chinese after the setback in Xinjiang, will walk down the hills of Arunachal Pradesh, South Tibet for them. Our Rulers who are playing games creating rift amongst officers and other ranks in the aftermath of the 6th Pay Commission will then face their moment of truth. Running to US or UN will be of no help because of the pressure China can mount on the Dollar. Sonia is not heading the govt. So poor PM will have to act as the shock absorber. Will he prove stronger than Nehru who couldn't get over the 1962 shock?

Chinese Threat
by amitava mukherjee on Jul 13, 2009 02:15 PM  | Hide replies

Indian armed forces are prepared to face chinese, and unlike 1962, where we did not consider China as adversary, now there is a change of mindset and military preparedness to match the strength of PLA. True after 1962 debacle, India does n't want to engage with China in a protracted war, but it wont be onesided this time. Some one suggested that we are preparing for surrendered is mis informed. After 1962, our Armed forces have evolved for better. And dont overestimate PLA, which war they won after 1962, remember war against Vietnam.

Infact twice they tried Vietnam's patience and twice they were taught a lesson, that they will not forget easily, why we are being cowtowed by this country. It was a himalayan blunder by Nehru, I would always like china as a friend, but if they take it as our weakpoint then they are wrong, actually all communist regime follows this nationalistic path to project themselves in the face of people who has not elected them, Stalin did the same when he gobbled up the territiries like Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia. They try to instill a false nationalistic pride into the mind of their citizens so they might forget the pain of one party rule and subjugation.

Hello Mukherjee, have you not read in newspaper that Indian defence is spending money in forming GOLF clubs when other countries are planning to attack us. Fantasatic example is what action did India take after Mumbai attacks.

AMERICAN PROPAGANDA
by Gopinathan Nair on Jul 13, 2009 02:13 PM  | Hide replies

It may be an American propaganda to ensure enmity between the two neighbouring countries. It is to be noted that during our full fledged wars with Pakistan, China has not sided with Pakistan even the USA urged China to do so.

WHAT DO U MEAN, `CHINA HAS NOT SIDED WITH PAK'? TRUE IT DIDN'T ATTACK INDIA SIMULTANEOUSLY BUT IN EVERY INTERNATIONAL FORA CHINA SUPPORTED PAK. AND WHAT WAS MUSHARRAF DOING IN BEIJING DURING KARGIL WAR WHEN HE WAS CAUGHT ON TAPE DIRECTING TELEPHONICALLY OPERATIONS AGAINST INDIA? I HOPE U DON'T IMAGINE AMERICA HAD ALSO INCITED CHINA TO ATTACK INDIA IN 1962.

Author is too simplistic in his approach
by vijay patel on Jul 13, 2009 02:09 PM  | Hide replies

Author is too simplistic in its approach.

1)First the cost of war is always too high and within years lead to inflationary ecomony of China and can agravate the already existing problem of unemployment.

2)The Communist party is not one single person. There are power within power in chinese communist party. The decision making is not that of a single party memember and they would not tolerate any one trying to stay in power by misadventure.

3)Today China wants respect in the world and want to counted as a responsible world power. Any attack on India will severely damage China's role as a reponsible leader in the world.

4)China will also have to weight the cost of deafeat. IN such wars nuclear warheads are of no use and trying to occupy an enemey terriorty is always very costly affair. Take the example of USA occupying Afganistan and Iraq. Inspite of being super power they find it impossible to contine the misadventuer and are now looking for a face saving way out.

I dont think China leaders are as novice as the author
