Cost ????
by chetan bhairnatti on Dec 09, 2010 11:53 PM  | Hide replies

What will be the cost of the movie tickets? 300/- for you and 300/- your wife, another 300/- for snacks, car parking, petrol add upto another 300/-. After the movie, you will be you minus 1200 Rs.
Instead of that, take ur bike out, go for trekking, biking, long drive.... you enjoy the latter better than the recent released movies. what say ???
My last movie, which I saw in the theater was Bluffmaster !!

Drive safe !

A physical tour is different than an emotional tour (not always a heavy emotion). People have different preferences and moods. Movies need to serve this very purpose of entertaining the tired/stressed/strained/bored auidences. If that is not the case, no one would pay for the dumbers.

Suggestions for avoiding disasters
by kumar on Dec 09, 2010 11:15 PM  | Hide replies

These are my suggestions:
1) Never and ever sign Abhishek Bacchan and/or his wife. If you sign both, you are done for your life. They are the biggest reasons why so many flops are there
2) Think reasonably and see where to shoot the film. You don;t need Shooting of crying song in Switzerland because of his/her Mom's death
3) No need to put indian zeeps/vehicles burning in Grnad canyons of America. Lot of producers ship vehicles from india to USA. Don;t know why
4) Try to shoot in india/nepal only. There are lot of beautiful places.
5) Check if the subject is good. No need to make a movie if subject/content is not good
6) Be reasonable when offering renumerations to actors/actresses. You can't offer 6 crores to kareena kapoor or Aiswarya bacchan just for glamorous purpose
7) Complete the movie within the schedule. No need to put 3 yrs of effort for making a disastrous movie
8) Don;t enter into movie industry just to rub shoulders with Khans/bacchans. They will rob you. If you want to make money, be careful. get exposure before making a movie. But if you want to burn black money, then this is the best industry

Well said.

Another point to be added is: Don't think your audience is stupid.
These people add one hot item song shot with a pricey heroine, and the rest of the movie is utter trash, and they think it'll make the film a hit! (eg: Chiggy Wiggy)
They squander crores of rupees just to dress up their heroines in designer clothes n shoes, and think the audience will be so blown by the looks it'll forget to pay attention to the movie. (eg: Kambakht Ishq, Aisha, Tashan etc)
They mindlessly copy a Hollywood or even French classic, and forget that a huge majority of the Indian audience will not connect with the theme; even rickshawalahs have brains. (eg: We are family, Guzaarish etc)
They keep churning out the same old themes with different packaging without any imagination, and think that what worked once will work again. And again. And again. (can't give so many examples)
They are so disconnected with the real India, they utterly fail to show reality. Making movies only for NRIs and metro-dwelling public will not make movies a hit. (eg Yaadein, MNisK, Aisha etc)

Someone needs to tell them that moviegoers too have brains. Maybe then we won't have so many flops.

Roopal - Superb points. Perfectly agree with you..We r family is one of the dumbest of the dumb movies..I agree that producers need to connect to real india instead of following Karan Johar blindly..

Passed
Poor production values are causing problems
by Passed on Dec 09, 2010 09:52 PM

Our film industry has forgot to run like a business and is running more like a la-la land company. Instead of paying attention to story line, containing the cost and giving audience their worth of money in entertainment, the whole industry is competing to create the biggest extravagance with poorest of story line. This industry of full of talented people, but either they are not given proper power to exercise their creativity or they are forced to do things different way.

Inpite of all these corporate houses putting money in the business, it is still run as if some "Dummy financier" is dictating the terms, like in olden times.

Big flops would continue

Tees Maar Khan would be an even bigger disaster.. Today it seems there is not much emphasis on content but rather on slick promotion which is a short-term strategy..

Sholay is the only true blockbuster of india!
by Rizwan Khan on Dec 09, 2010 08:39 PM  | Hide replies

There have been many films called blockbusters but for me there is only 1 movie in indian history which can be called a blockbuster. SHOLAY! No film before or after has had such an impact on a country like sholay has. Every character famous after 35years, every dialouge famous after 35years. Sholay is the only movie for me which has penetrated rural as well as urban india. Films like DDLJ which are called blockbusters only run in big cities in urban centres, places like Bihar DDLJ flopped. Only sholay can be considered a blockbuster in the truest sense of the word!

A blockbuster is a movie which is a blockbuster in every centre of india. Sholay is the only movie to have achieved this. Name 1 other movie which has done this? I can not think of any movie?

Yeah, u are right 100%, many have been called blockbusters, but SHOLAY is one of a kind, a real blockbuster in the truest sense of the word

It ran for over 5 years in many places continuously and always it was sold out. Huge crowds used to flock to see the movies, Oh! what fine movies they used to make those days.

And what fine super actors were they, handsome Dharmendra, Mega star Amitabh Bachchan, beautiful Hema Malini, real actor Sanjeev Kumar, cute Jaya Bhaduri, classy villian Amjad Khan and then there was that 'Arre O Sambha' MackMohan, super comedian Asrani....wow, all greats..

I read an interview recently wherein Dharmendra, now 75 years old wanted to act again with 69 years Amitabh and recreate that magic of JAI-VEERU, he was nostalgic going back on time.

SHOLAY is one of a kind, never again will there be a SHOLAY.

How do we classify commercial success
by kiran kumar on Dec 09, 2010 07:53 PM  | Hide replies

If movie A makes 25 Crores and movie B collects 5 Crores then the first movie should be considered better success. Even if the fact is that the first film's budget is 40 crores and the next one is only 2 crores.

Because, in audence perspective it is always paisa vasool if I pay for the ticket I am expected to be entertained to that extent.

One cannot be forced to eat a dish just because it is made with costly ingredients.

Taking Guzarish as a case in point, producers should think what value add did Hrithik got to it as opposed to how much he cost them. What would happen if he was replaced with Aftab Shivdasani. Look at the value add that Hrithik brings in. Same with all the resources of the movie. cut down on anything that has negative value add.

That is how business needs to be done.

Dude, I wanna know who'll go to watch a movie starring Aftab Shivdasani as a solo hero!

But yes, you make a valid point. Adding value is the sole reason producers use these big stars. SLB could've cut his cost substantially had he avoided those lavish sets, those period costumes and a lot of other not-needed clutter. But the guy seems to exist in another dimension altogether...either his films are gray, or blue, or red.
