Excellent Music
by Santoshkumar Dattatray Bhat on Oct 21, 2008 06:27 PM  | Hide replies

Once again a master peice by A.R. Rehman. One peculiar thing about rehman is his songs will feel good after some repetitative hearing. First time if you listen some songs will feel ordinary and boring but if you listen once again you will feel liking the same song and then start enjoying after repitative hearing. His music has some devine feeling attached to it. Yuvraaj will be a winner only because of music I think.
Some excellent songs are there as mentioned in the review.
His use of singers matching to that particular song are just amazing.
I think he is one of the greatest composers india has ever produced.

Rahman, a good singer with classic touch.....give me a break....just listen to Mohd Rafi, Kishore or even Shaaan.....
his voice is crap and he knows only onething....barking loudly and later saying that hez influenced by sufi music....it may be good but our Indian music is second to none...tell me name one person whoz singing songs of JTJN....atleast i cant find on,,,,, just PRE CONCEIVED NOTIONS....nothing else....i highly recommend NO

Rahman is a good music composer but not that class as SD, Shankar Jaikishen, O P Nayyar, RD possessed!

I dont want to sound offensive but RD has got most of his songs as "inspirations" out of western classics of that era.U can easy figure out the all time classic "Pink panther theme" in almost all his songs. He himself has agreed to that in his interviews wherein he has referred to the western songs that has been adapted to make the indian versions.Likewise most yester years music directors did the same but for a few exceptions here and there. The only thing is that we are not familiar to the western songs of those periods.Western doent mean just the English songs. And to be frank can u tolerate a "Ae duniya ke rakhwale" in today's movie? i dont think so.You would rather sleep than listen to such a song.

I think lot of people are biased towards older generation...they have also given ordinary music which are lost in time...we only remember the good ones hence this notion...

Not saying about his singing ability, but the his music is indeed GREAT only for ears, not melodious enough to leave you in awe after track ceases.. sure exceptions are there... but then they are with other composers.. too. Its commendable that Rahman is able to continuously give like-able music in more of a kind of diluted background scores.

A R Rahman is a curse to Indian film music. The whole film music got spoiled by him. Is there is any song which is as popular as Just Roop tera Mastana in Aaradhana? Throw him out he is useless!

AR saved Indian music from mediocrisy (or maybe worse)
Bollywood was swarming with pathetic ppl like nadim sharavan, anand milind, copycat malik & Nasal singers like Kumar Sanu....

stop making a fool of urself...
Also ur Kishoreda was also overhyped...the example u gave shows ur taste

4 stars.. tooooo much
by Afred Abraham on Oct 21, 2008 06:12 PM  | Hide replies

Agree with G.S. Giri. If talk about the opera symphony then 4 stars r fine... more than music songs more sound like background score.. lacking melody in almost every song.
Not all songs r that to go ga ga about. Only 2-3 songs r worth to be called showing Rehman class of melody.. and again not very melodius.. u cannot hum it yarrr.

I also feel that sometimes ARR should work with new writers and singers already there. Its laudable that he uses fresh voices from his troupe but should not bank always on his music, should have tried established new singers.. aatif, shaan, KK.. here. Gulzar's(I immensely respect the legend of him for his lyrics in 70's and early 80's, those were masterpiece but such delicate words not always carry well the avalanche of an expression/feelings.) words many places seem to be mismatching ARR's style of music.

Say whatever, if talking about liking song at once, then Rahmaan songs will lag behind other composers(J-L best example)...so if u hear ARR repeatedly, considering the name heavyweights of his and Gulzar.. u will end up liking the songs.... and for that matter any decent song if repeated surely gel with the senses at one time.

Just my thoughts.. not an invitation to pin down with abusives

Jatin-Lalit is a shito compared to AR ,if you would have listen to illaraja , where AR was his Synth player with drummer Siva mani he also holds the music in high esteem.Meanwhile if you think AR is having a magical touch coz of Gulzar , forget its like champions are always together.Sachin has made most of his runs against Australia
