Aag.

Well. When I saw Sholay way back in 1976, I was totally disappointed. Judging against Deewar, it was just nothing and I felt that it ended rather abruptly. Most of the guys who reviewed it then, panned it. It also faced dismal boxoffice prospects. But, the film survived to become one of Bollywoods biggest hits. It was just a fluke. Something that we can't explain. But, in today's age of internet and satellite TV, Aag doesn't stand any chance. It has been cruelly written off on day one first show itself. Vested interests have ganged against RGV and Big B. The film is not that bad considering the shit that is dished out to us week after week. That doesn't matter to the so-called intelligentia. RGV should be laid to rest - that is all they want.

You are rightly said..because as Ram Gopal Varma has always promised, it was just the case of genre and basic plot being same. Hence 'Aag' was always meant to be a viewed as a film which was a stand alone product. A difficult task but not impossible either.

Cruelly written off? The only cruelty I see is the one inflicted on me, for having to sit through the damn thing. I agree, we get shit dished out to us every week, but nobody has hyped it the way this one has been. Sholay has been attempted before...remember the Aamir Khan starrer 'Mela' or Raj Kumar Santoshi's China Gate? This has been the worst attempt yet.

Who is funding RGV to make such movies and without hits how is making so many movies. Govt should check whether where is getting money or he is simply converting black money into white or something else.

Watch the AAG with no-comparitions of classic SHOLAY!
by oneamongbillion on Sep 01, 2007 02:09 PM  | Hide replies

Hi Fans,

Watch the movie with no-comparitions of classic SHOLAY!!! leave your brain in home and just watch the movie and enjoy...at least appeciate Ramu for his efforts to show his adapation of this greatest classic epic of the indian cinema.

Forget about the criticism of the original SHOLAY makers and their tantrums of keeping credits of this clasic movie..irrespective of their opposition and critics views on this remake of SHOLAY, Ramu tried to give his own adaptaion of the story by changing names(due to opp. from original makers..(damn thing they done.)
When you people are watching super hit movies like PARTNER,Heyy Babyy,etc..(leaving the brain in the house) why can't you people watch this remake of SHOLAY?

When we watched and made super duper hits some movies which mostly remake of Hollywood hits what stopping you people to watch this indian remakes of indian classic hits. So, encourage these directors like Ramu, Sanjay Gupta,Anubhav Sinha, Vishal (they have their unique identity making of movies..).

Enjoy,
Indian Cinegoer..

Enjoy the movie and encourage the Director to

Hmmm...encourage the Director ...for what ..to make more crapp...To call this movie a copy of sholay will be an insult to Indian cinema, I am a fan of RGV's work..but this is the worst movie he can make..if he had made a copy it wud have been bearable...but AAG is utter nonsense..first time I have walked out of a movie hall in interval. This film shud be shown to film students wanting to be director to teach them "what not to make". I still have faith in RGV that he can make better movies. He shud leave Amitabh camp and start afresh with new budding talents, which always works for him. Anybody calling AAG a good movie needs to seriously get his head examined.

You are right!!!..but what i mean to say is appreciate him to have guts to remake this biggest, remarkable and greatest movie of the bollywood..liking the novelty of the movie of previous and present version is individual taste but appreciating any one's work (irrespective of criticism and comparistions from armchair critics, hardcore bollywood fans, cinegoers, veteran movie makers etc...)to bring the movie to celluloid is very hard..it depends on individual liking and judgements about this remake.

I would give full marks to Ramu on this point not on final result of the movie (whether its hit or not..or it reaches to comparition to old classic SHOLAY.

Bye

well i definatly agree with you but wont agree we have to support and encourage these directors like Ramu,Vishal,Sanjay leela and Sanjay Gupta but of all these directors the one who do hell lot of blunders with his wierd experimentation is MrVerma Sir, and now he has to realise the fact that when whole nation and global audience are keeping an eye on him because of the mega hype he created , he should have used some of his brain while making the remake of great Classic. but i wont underestimate MrVerma as he has committed these kind of mistakes in the past but soon came outof it and gave great films like satya, company etc-VERMA IS NOT A GREAT DIRECTOR LIKE SANJAY LEELA , HE IS AN EXPERIMENTAL DIRECTOR WITH VIOLENCE AND UNDERWOLD AS HIS MAIN SUBJECTS

Encourage the director to what????? encourage hime to make such crap remakes??? or encourage him waste money on actors who do not suit the role??? Nisha Kothari?????Yuck! Her face itself displays how cheap she is! i haven't seen the movie yet but then i can make how "beautiful" it can be!
Atleast STICK TO THE STORY! Rather release the movie again if you HAVE to watch SHOLAY! RGV can stick to his "2 affairs per movie" ! atleast there the story is VERY predictable! this was like the worst ever casting i have ever seen! wheres Dharmender & wheres ajay devgan! the TWO COMPLETE opposites! as someone here rightly said he suits only serious roles... otherwise he's a hopless actor.... he'd be PERFECT for horror roles...for the directors : look at the brighter side when you cast him in your horror movies... atleast he wouldn't need make up!

Watch it differently!!
by karteik kotagiri on Sep 01, 2007 01:30 PM  | Hide replies

Ramu has been saying from the beginning that he is trying to remake sholay as differently as possible using the same story, characters etc. He dint try to remake it as it is, as it it would be of no use. People who watch it, should watch it as an independant movie and not watch it as just a remake of sholay. Then you will like it

Even after watching it as an independent movie, AB's 'comedy' and Nisha Kotharis ugly acting I would not even give 0 (would prefer to give negative)

In this case, he should not refer to Sholey at all. On one hand, he is making film by giving reference of sholey and on other hand you claim that the film should be seen as an independent movie.... hows possible
