sitamemon's review

i absolutely agree with sita's review on black the whole hoo, haa, generated by black falls flat, as an audience when u watch the the film,u feel as if u r sitting in prithvi theater watching a grandiose play starring big B, the first half is so melodramatic over board, cinemas language is totally difrent the minimal words and gestures would have worked better, rather it seems everybody is slap happy from father to teacher the little girl is pummeled, in simlas winter dunked into cold water, all in the name of discipline, everything was played to the gallery, deaf dumb and BLIND, please wouldn't being blind would have sufficed, the little girl is shown so hyterical, at that age, wherethe emotions r still evolving. its only in second half that there r certain moments, which saves this film, again the kind of resources bhansali had at his disposal least he could was get a better wig and and beard for BIGB in the end, the film teeters between abstract, similies. metaphors grandiose sets whereas the main issue here was pure emotions, to see how pure emotions work watch FINDING NEVERLAND, which is shorn of all these trappings and still tug at heart stings.

BEKAAAAR REVIEW
by navin on Feb 08, 2005 11:04 AM  | Hide replies

sorry 2 but rediff must throw away its reviewers

they like movies like aitraaz which demoralize the modesty of woman but dont like movies like black which makes us see the reality of being blind and deaf.

its pathetic 2 read such reviews

i hav been reading rediff reviews 4 quite a long time, and hav felt that rediff reviewer even hated deewaar which had a brilliant performance by AB.

BLACK is a really heartwarming movie frm Bhansali to Bachachan. and lets 4get rani and the child actress.

so an advise 4 rediff is please get good reviewers

I fully agree with Naveen.I wud further say that this movie has got all the chances of making it 2 oscars, even if it doesnt it'll stay in our hearts as a intricately woven Indian masterpiece of a movie close 2 our heart.this is my 2nd fav after 'a beautiful mind'.to all the admirers of 'Black'- all u guys r lucky to have been able to watch such a beautiful thing.lastly 2 rediff-dont give chances directly 2 recent passouts 4m a degree college or a sadist or pessimistic person 4 that matter.people indeed do read reviews,if u think v r dumb 2 accept whatever you post.writin such a pathetic n absurd review 2 'black' is like lessening your own credibility.words here dont justify what i want 2 actually convey, but hope it does the work.

Here is an Indian ''silence'' for Oscar
by Ratheesh on Feb 08, 2005 11:01 AM  | Hide replies

Its more than a movie...
The Silence of Michelle is still throbing in my heart...
And the mind blowing performances of each and every one ,especially of Rani and Amithabh is a gift to Indian cinema....

We can now proudly say to the world,

"Here comes an Indian "silence"
silence of Michelle...pain of her mother....and
triumph of her teacher

Ya 100% true ...
I Perfectly agree what Mr.Ratheesh says.
I think "Black" should be contesting for the Best Movie not the Best Foreign Langauage Movie..

Kudos to "Black" Unit.

I Hope Movies like "Swades" and "Black" will flow in the future of Bollywood.

rediff reviews sucks !!!
by abhishek on Feb 08, 2005 01:07 AM

If u tout Kisna as one of the milestone of bollywood n go on to the extent of comparing it with Lord of the rings n at d same time criticizes Black , it shows dat u r highly unfit 4 d job u r doing . I seriously doubt if the movie has even been watched before writing the reviews ..

Black, the review
by Vishesh on Feb 07, 2005 07:33 PM  | Hide replies

The movie Black seemed to me to be exquisite and uplifting. Not so this review - my advice to the reviewer - you do not have to sound so intellectual and superior. Admit it when you see a damn good movie.
Cheers,

About BLACK Part III.
by ravi on Feb 07, 2005 07:12 PM  | Hide replies

By the way, I didn't think Raincoat, Kisna, Shabd would be like that... truly black, I mean bad cinema. All of them 'storyless'. Mr Ghai says, "what critics say about Kisna doesn't affect me. I made Karz!" Exactly my point. Please recreate Karz - not Kisna. And just a note to all those great fans of recent movies like Titanic, Gladiator, Troy and Alexander - watch Mughal-e-Azam and ask Hollywood to raise a toast. Thank you!

Hello. It has been reported that BLACK is a flop at the box office. That may be so. This can happen in such cases where the movie may not have repeat value, which is true of Black. You can see this film only once you know, it is dark. There isn't any song-n-dance routine either, nor sex-appeal. AB is described as an 'unsung, unknown, wounded soldier' in the movie. Well, it's still an epic film and you miss it at your expense. Cheers!
