There are 8 MDGs (millenium development goals). The target 3 of MDG 7 (ensure environmental sustainability) is to halve, by 2015, the proportion of the population without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. So 84% of Indians have access to the improved sources of water. Nice to know. What is the statistics for basic sanitation? Hope all people get access to safe driking water.
I am staying in a housing society known as Neo Shastri Nagar in mulund mumbai of 175 members and i would appreaciate the govts/municipality/water dept/ etc who just provide us only 1 hr per day. I am surpised with the statement of the minister concerned, who just go on making false commitments but do not reach to it.

They cannot manage the affairs of their own country, how can they manage their water resources? There is no water problem, all of which is self created by them for political benefits, to hoodwink their own people from the real problems they face.
what bloody you people will provide safe drinking water. You people only make the money crores of rupees. What a shame, 62 years over and we are celebrating one after one Independence and Republic day but UPA government says 'SAFE WATER' water for rural people in 2012. It means till such time you take polluted water. Ask Minister what water he is drinking???? BUSTERED politicians
ITT WaterMark program is helping hundred od thousands of rural students to access Pure drinking water and improved sanitation. Already ITT has invested millions of dollars to several districts of West Bengal and they are improving the face of rural drinking and sanitation system.
