Ragging is like saas-bahu (Mother-in-law - daughter-in-law) relationship The cycle cannot be broken. That is human nature. Is ragging only an Indian phenomenon? I do not know because I am an old-timer. Hundreds and thousands of educationalists, vice-chancellors, HRD officials/ Ministers have been going abroad and they must be knowing whether there is ragging in other countries. I feel there are two factors: (i) the saas-bahu relationship passed on for generations, (ii) lack of communication between parents and children. Our children are seldom told or taught kindness, respect, compassion, which comes more with 'example' rather than 'precept'. Display of these qualities has to begin at home. May be lessons in compassion, kindness, and respect have to be imparted at the class IX/X level. Education, as defined and propogated by Swami Vivekananda, is what is needed to build "character". THis is a long term solution but is there an alternative otherwise? It being a psychological problem of the adolescents, the matter should be discussed and debated among psychologists. Raghavan committee aside, the above approach is one possible solution for which a decision has to be taken at the Supreme Court level

Good ? Looks like you are dying to get back on other hapless souls to satisfy your sadistic streak.
You go to colleges to get an education, not to satsify your base desires.

I was in the Anti-raggin committee in Bhavan's College Mumbai. Its a great way to stop regging by nominating students to take care of it. If I would have met Kabir Khan and seen him ragging someone... i'm sure he would have broken bones and would have been removed from college.
There are severe raggings in engineering colleges and medical colleges. I completed my engineering degree in 1987 from one of the government engineering college of Chhattisgarh (Earlier M.P.) . It happened to me also many times. As soon as went to higher classes , I was strongly opposing the raggings being taken by my classmates . Earlier there was no law against ragging. Now supreme court has taken note on the ragging in the institute . What I become familiar is if there is ragging , the institute (head of institute or dean ) will be responsible alongwith the student who has taken ragging. Further I think that parents whose children have indulged into ragging should also be made equally responsible .They (parents) should also be made a party in the court. Seeing the analysis of ragging in the news , we can conclude that raggings can not be totally stopped . But those indulging into ragging should be severely punished . I can say that by making laws, crime can not be stopped , but those indulging into crime should be rady to face the consequences. T.L.Sahu New delhi
.....ridiculous the way people have devilised ragging. as long as there is no physical injury happenning, i dont see any problem with ragging. yes, the case where the student died of exhaustion was extreme and the seniors have to be taught to be careful of such cases, but on the whole ragging is fun when taken in the right spirit. singing in front of strangers, or dancing or speaking in a different language, being made fun of or even stripping is not that big a deal. will these ngo's or anti ragging ppl be fighting for these kids when they go out in the working world and face different types of ppl. no wonder the kids today cannot stand work pressures and work environment. boo hoo to all those who make big issue of such things. so u sang in front of people u dont know, so what??? or u spoke in a language u r not comfortable with, did the sky fall??? grow up ppl. the world is even worse than this and all these ngo will not come behind u always to save u from ppl. this is nothing but sissy crap.

People like you who advocate ragging do not understand the enormity of this crime unless your children become victims. No one can possibly understand what it is like to lose one's 18 year old son unless they suffer the same fate. At that tender age, some can be very sensitive. what authority seniors have to rag their juniors. If a studen has to learn realities of life, let them do it on their own. They dont need their seniors to teach them. If they cannot help juniors to cope up with rigors of academics, what right they have to insult other peoples children.

most of the people raising voice against ragging had never faced a ragging in hostels. they dont have any clear idea of ragging at all.
there are very high percentage of sucide due to other than ragging what we are doing for that . ragging is personality development exercise . there are more than hundred times activities during the INDIAN ARMY trainning why do not consider as regging . If you join INDIAN ARMY you should face all the require activities , you should be redy to face remaing activities . if you are not ready to face . do not have dream for ARMY . similarly if you are going to be a part of professinal institute you should be ready to face every thing other wise do not have dream for proffesional degree . this is big problem current educatinal system that people are not ready to pay hard work they are searching white coller job or easy money now the triditinal workers are giving them out put and they are enjoying their hard work . but its a sereous issue that triditional worker are being educated their importance and going to black mail their top bosses due non capability at supervisor lavel parents please think twice your child can develop through ragging only because you gave him / her an environment of HANDLE WIH CARE . it will not support to your child in their remaining life

When you sign up for Army, you know beforehand that you have to go through rigorous training and you are prepared for that and accept that. Going into an educational institution in entirely different. You don't sign-up for ragging while doing so nor that is part of your curriculum.

Only the weak student get regged. I was never ragged in college. People should learn to defend other students. I was a part of a group called anti-ragging committee in my college... if we found someone raggin anyone else... we ensured that he had broken bones for sure.... ragging is stupid, it just has to stop and will stop if students like us were around. Too bad college is only for 5 yrs.
