HR layoff
by max skinner on Apr 28, 2009 05:39 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Finally - a HR layoff.

The colleagues don't personally hate you,it is just because that you work in one of the most unscrupulous and politically corrupt department in any office.

The entire dept of HR should have been removed, they are the devil in first place.

Dear Mr.Max Skinner, your observation
"The entire dept of HR should have been removed" is like saying:

"Please remove the last bogie of a train"

Get the picture??

Who drives the train dear Common Man - the engine or the bogey?

Can you please provide any real performance metrics of the so called HR depts that exist?

Can you ask them to be accountable for all the hiring done in boom time and also the layoffs of same hires (suddenly performance and quality is now a issue, where were the HR folks discussing these issues when there were rampant hirings few years back?)

If you can state any real reason apart from getting offer letters from HR,I will consider taking my comments back.

Personally, the team managers do a better job of motivating their members and are more respected than the pseudo HR dept.

Think about what I said.

Engine may drive the train, but without bogeys there is no work for engine. It is to carry the bogeys that the engine is employed in the first place. Understand that nobody is waste and nobody is inevitable. Without HR you would not have been recruited either. HR has its own job like you have your own. If they have to monitor your work they do that. It is just that. Even the team managers are appointed or promoted by the HR. Do remember that.

Shyam,

HR is not a recruitment function; recruiters are completely different from HR.

It is completely erroneous to suggest that team members are appointed or promoted by HR. If that is true, then the organization is sure to sink.

As I have mentioned elsewhere, people work because of Maslow's hierarchy, and not because of HR spiel. To deliver value to people on the basis of Maslow's laws, one needs to understand people very well. It is presumed that HR understands people, but today HR is practiced as a perfunctory automated process of business functions [ salary, leave, reimbursement etc]. There are many organizations that handle these functions on outsourced basis, thereby rendering the work of HR even more meaningless and puerile. There are very few HR honchos who actually engage, one on one, with the line staff and other department heads, trying to understand business needs, and working collaboratively to solve issues. More and more, it has become a paper pushing, blame allocating function.

Of course the office boy.

Pyari Gopal, why do you think so? Don't you feel lighter when you share your burden with someone? I mean think about it. If you are not doing, you are just bottling up all your emotions.

Don't think everything is lost when a job is lost. Jobs come and go. If there is a better job you resign and join the new one. On the contrary your company fires you when you don't fit your job or they don't need you anymore. Nobody is born for any job that should sit at home crying for losing it.

Shailesh,

Salary, leave etc are functions that are more related to the personnel function and has little to do with the much touted strategic role of HR. Most of these functions are now outsourced, in many firms. What is the role of HR please, when these "important" functions are outsourced?

I agree to the comments made by Krishna. Now that you are laid off you can spent some time with your 3 year old kid who needs you like anything. I dont know from where your kid has mad up mind and asking questions like " why I don't go to office like before ".

And add to your pitty you dont have any answer on that, what are you saying ??????
