Vote for the local problems during state elections or municipal elections. This election is for an integral nation. If you cannot rise above your personal problems, you do not deserve to be mature voter.

National Election - A Local Election --Comment
by Gokul Sharma on Apr 29, 2009 11:47 AM  Permalink

By looking at the sub-standardness of the election-campaign by candidates, their su-standard credentials, no debate on national issue, only filthy personal speaking etc., it very true that this National Election is being fought as a kind of Local Election by the individual candidates. Reforms on the Election System in India has been overdue and Election Commission must bring about some radical changes to set right the standard of the National Election in this big country of more than 110 crore population. The Election Commission must look into the very standard / profile of the candidates - a threshold, which alone can upgrage the standard of the Elections in India.

Funny !!!
by jiggs on Apr 29, 2009 11:41 AM  Permalink

I disagree sir , Its not electorate which is at fault but the political parties at large . Elections till 1980s were all by and large national elections with national issues . Howver with mandalisation and kamandalisation of national polity , the elections increasingly started degenrating into local issues . Ad the process continues till date . Even these elections are being faught on Modi , raman singh , shiela dixit or YSRs personal charisma and state govt performance rather than about central govt .
Both BJP and Congress are equally responsible for this state of affair , but is it such a bad thing ? At least this way the regional ambitions and aspirations are being met or at least getting expressed .

National election of local election?
by Hasmukh Pathak on Apr 29, 2009 11:36 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

in order to overcome this situation, parties with only local standing must be banned. They should be treated as only independant candidtes. In order to get registered as a national party, they must contest for at least 67% of the total seats. If a party is unable to secure 10% of the total seats, deposits of all losing candidates of that party should be forfeited

good suggesstion.but the national parties r very arrogant and ened to be taught a proper lesson so local parties shud be allowed to contest.
