If that happens all the credit goes to Sachin. Which could be annoying to many players in the team. So it is impossible for India to get world cup this year.

Although I too very much want India to win the WC, I do not see it happening because first of all cricket is a team game and not a one man show!!

Second we lack incisive, penetrative bowlers who can break an opening batting patnership. Usually an ODI team's best batsmen are 1234 and we lack bowlers who can capture a couple of quick wickets inside of the first ten overs. And the most damning statistic is that Sachin has NEVER played a BIG BATSMAN's role in ANY FINAL that INDIA has played. Atleast if we reach the Final next year, he has a channce to erase this glaring black mark on his career!

"Sachin has NEVER played a BIG BATSMAN's role in ANY FINAL that INDIA has played"

Maybe then the team needs to thank him for getting him into the final & then remaining 10 should take responsibility for at least win 1 game without him or ur saying even thats not possible?

Only Performance should count..response to Keshari
by Rick Shaw on Jul 30, 2010 07:10 PM  | Hide replies

- I agree new fellows need to be given a chance.
- For that, evaluate 6 batsman in the current line up and start replacing bootom two based on performance.
- Based on SRT performance for past several years (or even if you just take current performnca only), he is not in bottom two list of performers, so question should not be raised about his place in the team.
- Age doesn't matter as long as you perform. This is not just the curent argumet since he is in good form, he never had a bad patch in his carreer where hs was in the bottom 2 list of batsman in the team!!
- As far as Ganguly, it was his performance (or non-performance) that led to his retirement & not age!!! (check records...towards the end of his carreer. Yes, he was a good captain but first you need to deserve a place in the team based on self performance; you can not be in the team just because you are a good captain!!!)

Think about future of country Sachin
by manish keshari on Jul 30, 2010 07:06 PM  | Hide replies

How come people forget their own stances & words, this statement of sachin shows how desperate he is for getting his records. Where was Mr Tendulkar, when ganguly was going through the same phase. All & sundry where behind ganguly to quit cricket, where as that was the best year in his cricketing life, he too was able to perform & infact was India's best batsman (as far as scores are concerned) during that last year. It's a fact of life that when it comes to one's own, he start to give logics. Just look at the threat you are creating to indian test team sachin, because of you still lingering on (so as to achieve your personal record of smashing 50 test tons & achieve that elusive 300, or also may be an eye on the highest test score of lara) today we are hollow as far as "who's next for middle order?" is concerned.Rather than giving chances to players like, pujara, raina, rohit, yuvraj, kaif (mind you he is a genuine contender) we are just ignoring them. Not allowing them to start or develop into a good test batsman. India aims for No1 spot in tests, but what will happen in coming year or so, when finally sachin(after getting self satisfied that he has all the possible records to his name) will quit. We will be left with a middle order who will be totally naive to test cricket. A person doesn't become gr8 only by contributing on-field, just have a look at your idol, Mr Gavaskar, he left when he was

Keshari...Why shall SRT speak for Ganguli...??? He is talking about himself which is fair..And Did Ganguali hit double at 37 at all...?? Ganguli played well in his last series but his performance was poor prior to taht for sure..but that totally diff topic of debate...Selection comitte is quiet capabale of taking care of Team India in coming years ..if they need your expert opinion they sure will call you, Submit your resume to them...Your so called list of batsman each of those are dieing to play WITH Srt and not at the expense of him...And you know what you can rant and rave ...SRT will play till he wants to..Do whatever you want to do ...

hmmmm...well your point is rite, even i dont want the best performer (not only for india, but in this calendar year, he is the best in world) not to be a part of the team. Its just that i felt bad, when today SRT is saying this, people are agreeing with him, but when ganguly had said the same, they were against him. My personal belief is that performance matters & nothing else, but also i really think that our future in tests is not going in rite direction. younger ones needs to be given a chance. other wise we will be in a tuf situation.

Well I liked Saurav ...But honestly speaking his performance was going down ,Of course he rose again but it was kinda little late ..Selectores are constantly looking out for good local performances...We might just read stats...btu they are deployed to many matches to see it personally..And they do have plan..Some plans backfires..E.g.Dinesh Mongia..Chateshwar,Rohit,Utthappa many young new guys which are future of Ind team..But unfortunately there is fierce competation (Which is good too)...But pal if ppl didnt agree with Ganguly but now agree with SRT is that his fault..?? afterall the guy is proving himself over and over...In this whole year 6 test, 5 centuries, Did ganguly has that kinda performance in his best year ...??

My only point is that sachin is an all time great batsman, but he needs to think & contribute for a good future of indian cricket as well.

Apart from yuvi, no one has been given chances & time to adapt to rigors of international test cricket. Agreed yuvi is not upto the mark, so thats what i want say, unless you will try out options, you wont be able to see whether he can be at national team or not.

Totally agree with you..

Sachin is no more accumalating runs at a pace needed for the team, or at a pace to befit his title of "GOD" or "Greatest batsman ever"..
His slow grining innings meant India couldnt win the match..
This is what happens when people play only for records..
And as far as age and performances are concerned:
Steve waugh retired at the top of his form
Lara did the same
Murali we all know...
Great players retire when they are still great, and also to let some grooming happen..

But dont expect to see any of that from the "selfish" self proclaimed "GOD".

@sujith - If u really thought there was ne possibility to win this game then u have no idea bout cricket. His 200 was a match saver, thats wat was required, it wasnt a inning meant to win the game. U dont chase 600 score & win a game in subcontinent specially with a lousy bowling attack. Keep ur uneducated opinion to urself
