Salary cap
by Ranjit Singh on Oct 16, 2009 01:46 PM

Yes, it is very important to have a salary cap for the players. The players should not forget that it is this game which is giving them money and one should keep the spirit of the game at the highest level. How can someone not feel bad after loosing a game. And when it comes to the National team it should be more important then anything else. Also, the players should not forget that loosing confidence and getting out of form will affect on everything and the franchisees are not stupid. The franchisees have spent crores and are doing business. The players should remember the case of Saurav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. This can happen to anyone and they will have no option. The selectors will ignore them and the francshisees will dump them. I believe that once the locking period of 3 years is over the franchisees will certainly sit and think about these options. Why should they pay for non-performance. One should remember that they are hard core business houses.

Worry about Quality and Performance
by Praveen Goud on Oct 16, 2009 01:45 PM

Instead of BCCI playing cheap tactics with its long history of monopoly in restricting cricket to specific region, caste or religion irrespective of quality and performance which led to this situation. Whats wrong if IPL or other formats attract performance oriented players on name of money. This ofcourse has effected the coterie who made lot of money before IPL's T20 matches. People are observing your cheap tactics which you guys exploited so far...Change your mindset, let cricket reach all sections of society irrespective of region, religion or caste. Not just IPL or just T20 format, we need several more formats which give opportunity for several cricketers to generate employment and wealth. BCCI mistake in not recognizing too many young cricketers who were aspiring for place in Team India irrespective of caste , religion and region led to this. Weren't cricketers making more money through adv sponsorship before IPL?. BCCI didn't change with time and here is the consequences for that...

The Major Impact !
by Gopi Menon on Oct 16, 2009 01:34 PM

The major impact of IPL is not just on the young Cricketers, but also on the cricket lovers...Infact people have already started showing less interest in Criket.

Soon it is bound to be reduced to a "ball and stick" game practiced by careerists who are fond of reliving the British legacy...

Learn From Tennis.
by Ravi krishnan on Oct 16, 2009 01:26 PM  | Hide replies

in my opinion tennis is one sport which has all quarters covered. A player gets money only for what he wins. Secondly, it is an individual sport and the players must display their quality in every outing unlike cricket. In indian cricket a player in grade A gets more money than one in a lower grade even if the latter performs and the former doesn't. In fact our cricketeers are as good as politicians in manipulating every thing from selection to commentary team to umpires to venue to pitches etc etc. Even a person like Dravid(Long considered a gentleman) is trying all his tricks to be in the ODI squad(although he just is not made for it) just to boost his IPL value! At this juncture the government of India should ban international cricket for a period of 2-3 years and only then our cricket will improve.

Why Blame cricket players, in every field this things happen, dont blame Dravid he has proved his worth in the past , like an employee at his peak.

Take for example a new employee joins your company, works more than you n performs more than u, will u resign saying that i am not hard working than this new gentleman, it never happens , u try harder n prove ur worth to ur employer,

Dravid is trying the same to prove that he has still lot of cricket left in him may be he is wrong , like most of the employees in the corporate world. So please bear with persons like Dravids , Tendulkars, etc

Rightly said IPL is damaging cricket and Indian cricket
by anand iyer on Oct 16, 2009 01:24 PM

The charm of the game is lost. Any sport is played with the intention of bringing glory to the nation and as everything comes with a price the players are paid for it.Too much of anything is never good. Money is dominating the game and players look more settled to make quick buck with one or two short lived performances.County cricket benefit young talents who hail from anywhere in the globe, IPL is killing the attitude of already performing players and instead of nourishing young talents it is losing players to injuries just ahead of important contests.

Big Struggle Ahead
by sougat chakravartty on Oct 16, 2009 01:18 PM

BCCI and Team India both need to have a radical change in thinking. Younger players are so caught up in the lure of money that they don't take any major tournament seriously. I reckon the IPL committee and the BCCI should put a salary cap for these guys. If the IPL has corporates as team owners, some of their rules could be implemented, like putting non-performers on the bench...:D
