No doubt they are both great batsmen but Ricky "dicky" Ponting cannot come even close to Tendulkar. Even if he breaks Tendulkar's records it won't make him a better batsmen than Tendulkar. Ricky Ponting plays for records only and Tendulkar is playing for India and scoring runs for the team not for records.

In comparison the one who plays for records is Sachin and not Ricky Ponting. Accept guys, there is no harm in acceptin the genius of Ricky Ponting. Not doubt about Tendulkar is best batsman in the world but at present Ricky Ponting is ahead of him..

so Dicky Ponting wants to play cricket until he breaks Tendulkar's records. Ponting's got everything now so what's left for him to prove. He is a good batsmen, he's got 3 world cups, what else left??? Whatever Ponting is trying to do is for only breaking records. On the other hand, Sachin wants to win a world cup for india that's why he says he will play till 2011.

Agree buddy. Ponting hammers only English and NZ bowlers. But when faced with Bhajji and Ishant(perth 2008), he hops around. Real class is what Sachin and Sourav when they opened in the late 90's. Even Akram,mcgrath wasn't spared. AWesome duo! Not to forget Sehwag...

It is true that sachin is one of the best batsmen ever produced atleast for oneday farmate. But honestly speaking he could have done better for india had he not played for for records at some stage of his life. Any way he got all the fame and benefits he should get for his cricketing batting skills. But india could not get the real proud that was looking possible with such a talent. This is my opinion. what about you guys.

I think you are a m0r0n to call that Sachin playing for records. He has helped India win so many matches that it is impossible for any of the Indian batsmen (past or present) to come near to him. If you say Sachin is playing for records then you want to say Ricky Ponting is also playing for records.
