Sourav's omission
by sai krishna on Jan 22, 2008 01:29 PM  | Hide replies

It is very unfortunate to hear that, Dhoni not want Ganguly in his team. Vengasarkar want to build a side for the next world cup. What Vengasarkar thinks next World Cup will be held in Australia. For the information of all the friends in the site Next World Cup will be held in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka in 2012 not now. So the assumption that team is selected keeping next World Cup in mind is totally baseless.

I could not understand what Mr.Dhoni thinks he cannot field Ganguly anywhere in the Cricket field. Team which was selected are all World class fielders can he depend on any one except Raina & Yuvraj on field.

It is better for India team both Dhoni & Kaarthik dropped and Parthiv Patel could be considered for tests.

It is pure politics played by Vengsarkar. Earlier we thought Kiran More is a worst selector we have but I think now Vengsarkar even put Kiran more far behind.

Australian, are very intelligent they play their cricket very hard and professional way to tackle them we need Mentally tougher players like Ganguly & Laxman in the One days also.

Actually we should build a future test team and remove laxman, dravid, ganguly, kumble and Sir Sachin from the test team and includes these kids.. we do need the future test team isnt it?

whoever made this decision needs to understand that only way to teach arrogant ponting a lesson is to defeat his team on the cricket field and that is only possible when we have the best team.

Atleast Seelctors are consistent in dropping both Lakshman and Ganguly. Do you all remember the reason vengi told when asked why Lakshman was not selected? he is not a good fielder and not fit for running between wickets. If fielding and running between wickets is preventing Lakshman not to be selected for One days, why the same yard stick cant be put for Saurav and others who dont field well and dont run well between the wickets?

Anil Kumble...be alert.
by vijayabhaskar ramanadham on Jan 22, 2008 01:28 PM

Timing to announce team for ODI is not correct. It may have adverse impact on the 4th test .Ganguly & Laxman were disturbed when they
are in top form.
Anil should accept that 412 is not at all a score to win when the team like Australia is
on other side having 2 days time with full wickets. we have that win not bcz of our good batting. It's bcz of our bowling & Australians
poor performance. More to say it's a psychological win over Australia with ur statement after 2nd test attracted uproar throughout the world.
Now team should be alert for the coming test.
They should perform well without any inhibitions. Otherwise we have to repent.

Saurav the legend, the fighter, The come back kid, the bravest, etc.etc. Can you name any one else in the indian cricket history, who could have come back the way saurav came back after all those insults..
by skaru on Jan 22, 2008 01:06 PM  | Hide replies

Ganguly's story has been truly inspirational. He stoodup against all ODDS, just believed in
his abilities and roared back into the team. Ganguly is my roll model now in beating my odds at work and hoping to not only survive but do well. Selectors please dont screw this amazing story of a true and sensational fight back especially by an INDIAN is truly amazning. Not many INDIAN's have the guts of saurav and he serves as inspirational roll model for several people..

except T20; his record in ODIs is very poor; success of T20 is mainly team; you tell any remarkable innings of dhoni in T20 like yuvi, rpsingh;soon he will get hard days to find his place.

I hope you understood what you wrote. We are talking about one dayers ( A 50 over match). Saurav's average is second best to sachin's and in the last year it was exceptionally good. Couple of hard swings of bat won't cut 50 over games...the team selected is good for T20 and not for one dayers..

Past records dont matter. There has been reports that he is playing for his own individual scores and not listening to the TEam Management's instructions. This has been reported when he does play very very slow against Bangladesh in World cup and even during recent series agaisnt Australia. He is playing for his own records and showing to the world that yes I am scoring 50. getitng 50 from 115 balls and getting out is not great thing. Moreover his fielding & running between the wickets are sub-standard.

I have seen him fielding shakely and have given arround 50-60 runs wih his shaky fielding in this Austraian series. There must be a discussion and NEWs papers says Selectors also contacted Kumble and fielding coach Robin singh before taking this decision.

Nobody is talking abt past record here....Its about present form....
Ganguly has been highest run getter for India in past year.....and his average has been second, next only to Sachin.....
I do not think, Dhoni, has the skill or class to play outside sub-continent....And he should play what he is best at....20-20....

Also, playing 5-6 good innings can be done by any average or beloe average player, but to keep a great performance record over a long career is what separates greats like Sachin and Sourav from the other mediocres!!

Its always Indian public who does this. It's not Dhoni's fault if we think he himself has raised the expectations with his performances on subcontinental pitches and then failing outside. He plays his normal game, and its our fault to make him a hero.
We have to accpet that he is first the wicket eeper and then batsman. If he does a good job of wicket keeping, he is doing his job.

Let's not put too much hope and create hype on his batting and then get disappoined when he dont deliver as a batsman. SIMPLE

The problem is not that Dhoni is a mediocre batsman, the problem is that he has removed good batsmen from One-Day team and got in younger batsmen who are even worse then him!!

Well, I guess by the time the Triangular Oen Day series is over, Dhoni will get to know the error of his ways!!

Mediocre young ones
by Zaveri on Jan 22, 2008 12:56 PM

Apart from bowlers we all have seen the great performance of youngsters in this test series. On the contrary vvs, ganguly, dravid and saching were highly successful and grabbed their opportunities when they started their career. In this present lot none of the youngsters have the quality of the seniors and most of them are mere mediocre

Bad decision.
by vijayabhaskar ramanadham on Jan 22, 2008 11:54 AM

I donot understand why seniors have to be dropped to accomodate juniors, though laters performance is very bad. see how yuvraj & Dhoni performed in tests series. why they have not been sacked and continued. only the board has to answer.
Dhoni & Board, both are suffering with complex
to assert their positions, which is not at all
good for Indian cricket.
Dhoni has to keep in his mind..on one or other day he is to leave..what will be his feelings
when he was given treatment like this?
After all he is a kid in Indian cricket and was given more honour/money than what he deserves.
First let us refine ourselves how to honour & respect our captains/seniors when they retire. Let them retire proudly with honour & dignity.

A small advice
by Sumit De on Jan 22, 2008 11:46 AM

When the team being declared for ODI, with senior not in place and team almost resembling the T20, then let them play with T 20 frame of mind. Hit out in first 20 overs. If u have any batsmen surviving after that you can add some extra runs. Anyway to survive 50 overs in Australia, you need to have class, which the seniors could have provided better than who have been named in the ODI team

Remove Shoni from the team
by Lucky Man on Jan 22, 2008 11:30 AM  | Hide replies

Dhoni fans...it will dishearten you...but we all have to agree the fact that Dhoni can not play on bouncy piutches...it has proved many times...in South Africa, Dhoni failed to deliver..in 2007 World cup it was same dismal story again..in England he struggled to negotiate with swinging ball not only with the bat but also with his wicket keeping gloves...in Australia also he sturggled to even get past 50 in last six innings...why we need such pathetic batsman as a captain? Dhoni can play well only on subcontinent pitches where ball doesn't bounce much, neither it swings. He dosen't have the right tehcnique to bat..he doesn't move the feet much..just play the shots with horizontal bat...so we don;t want Dhoni to be captain of team India.. He failed to deliver at times..

I guess someone is forgetting that Dhoni is Wicket keeper batsman. Nobody expects him to score a century every time he bats!!! He is very handy down the order and in crunch situations.

no one is forgetting that Dhoni is wicket keeper batsman...he has his role model as Adam Gilchrist.. he himself has raised the expectations with his performances on subcontinental pitches...he was trying to outclass the batsmans of Dravid & Ganguly's caliber...but he is least capable batsman..and when is trying to remove the senior guys like Dravid & Ganguly saying that they are not the quickest in the outfield..then we have the problem...
