As every Indians, it was really heart breaking to see how India lost the second test. I could make my mind to see the replay of Dravid getting out just for one time. I was surprised, angry, feel pity, how can an umpire in the elite group can make such a decision. Eventhough late, its good that the attitude of Australian Cricket players (not all) is being questioned including with in Australia. I believe its reverse racism. How can Procter believe the five from Australian team and not Sachin and Kumble. Is it that bcoz they got a bit darker skin. Media should also take up the issue that whether any fixing have been made in this match. The way the both umpires made mistakes do arises such a question.Ofcourse we are loosing side, but never forget that we have signifcantly contributed to the game for years and is still continuing to. I believe England players do will have some stories of bad umpiring, which have led some crucial breakthroughs. I wonder why they are silent.

But I am glad that in this problem all Indians, icluding medias came together, fight for our players, (fight for self dignity). Thanks my dear Bros and Sis. we are INDIANS

Well I have been following the furore and emotions the last couple days. I am actually pissed of with harbhajan assuming he did call Symonds a Monkey. How dare he insult a Monkey?. We have a different view of monkey's in our culture and heritage and also worship them. Unlike Symonds they are harmless creatures, who only try to snatch bananas and coconut in the temple compounds.

Another this issue lays to rest is the whole argument about Nature versus Nurture. I now firmly believe that genes do matter after seeing Ponting and those bunch of brain dead pack semi evolved apes, which the world calls Australian cricket team. We know what their heritage is and how and why their fore fathers ended up in Australia. I guess Hobart and the island prisons were reserved for the worst lunatically pathological criminals, one of them Ponting considers as his forebearers.

I dont care a damn if people call me racist or other fancy terms, but yes we are a better culture with very strong heritage. As human beings we are a far better and civilized race than thos bunch of convicts.

It is a piece written out of vengeance. Very poorly written. Monkey is indeed a racial slur in the western world (and not in India , whatever may Prem's wife say to him!)and Harbhajan clearly was quite wrong to utter that word for the second time (he said it in India to Symonds and got away with that). However the ban was little too early. The hearing should have been after the test series. And what about
Tendulkar's reprieve (lbw shout)when he was 20? Australia got at least 10 poor decisions during 2005 Ashes which they lost and we didnt see their public bring out donkeys on the streets in the name of the umpires.Stop proclaiming ourselves patriots and engaging in idiotic hypocrisy. The fact is although Dravid and Ganguly were not out, other nine batsmen could not survive 70 overs and three of them fell to a part-time bowler in the penultimate over.FOCUS ON CRICKET, FOLKS...DON'T TRY TO BE CONVENIENT GANDHI-FOLLOWERS.

Wider Angle
by Niraj Bajaj on Jan 09, 2008 09:04 AM  | Hide replies

I am not an avid cricket follower. But I keep reading articles written by Prem and others. They are an excellent learning experience.

Let us look at two recent instances:
1. Greg Chappel raped the Indian team by his eccentricities. Inspite of that BCCI retained him as coach. Tendulkar going to press cornered him and he quit. BCCI still wanted him to continue.
2. The current incident. Umpiring issues were going on. Bhajji was suspended. It took Tendulkar to SMS and trigger what has happened.

Its only a matter of time where we will not have Tendulkar.

We seem to have forgotten one important aspect. What did BCCI do? BCCI is a satisfied and satiated Elephant, who can live without doing nothing for days, months and years. We dont know who will replace Tendulkars role, probably none.

Indian cricket is set for deterioration because BCCI will attract members according to its exceptional bank balance. The members first priority will be money and monetary implications.

If BCCI were listed on the stock exchanges I would recommend everyone to sell/short sell.

God save Indian Cricket !!!

Perhaps get your facts straight Mr. Bajaj

It has been confirmed that Tendulkar DID NOT send the SMS. He may or may not have spoken to the BCCI VP, but no confirmation of the contents of any alleged conversation have been provided yet!

Who stirred up Harbhajan?
by John Brad on Jan 09, 2008 09:04 AM  | Hide replies

No one, except Tony Greig, ever bothered to ask the question - what made Harbhajan say what he said if he said it? I mean who/what stirred him up? Who started it? Why? Harbhajan was batting nicely and was trying to get his country out of trouble. Such a situation requires an immense amount of concentration. In that circumstance the last thing on Harbhajan's mind, probably, would have been to call Andrew Symonds "monkey". I believe that the Australians were trying their well-known notorious tactics on Harbhajan i.e. to demoralise the opponent by verbal abuse before getting him out with the ball. If Andrew Symonds did not stir the pot in the first place, we would not have been talking about it now.

Why is Prem Panicker getting so agitated?
by Max on Jan 09, 2008 08:57 AM  | Hide replies

Prem Panicker's columns would generally focus more on the game than these type of machinations which has found a populist fervour in India (a country which for some strange inexplicable reason can do nothing wrong!). Come on, Prem (you are a rare breed among Rediff contributors)....just write about the game and let this issue die its natural death.

A typical reaction Max:
Don't point out if something is wrong. Whatever happened to the great Australian (and Western) culture of standing up to one's rights?
