the way dravid was made a captain left everybody to think that the same treatment would be given to him . why should anything be different . the wiseasses who call themselves selectors etc have been very consistent in their behaviour towards players i.e idiotic and rude .
they had the tenacity to name ganguly for captainship again ????????????????
bcci stands for board of cricket control of idiots , they should not represent india only themselves

What rubbish you are talking about ? had these people be antisocial or wahatever you are saying like , there would have been at lease five to six players in Indian team from mumbai.
Why Rahul dravids decision is not being accepted with open mind that his batting was worstly affected bcoz of captaincy burden ?
this is really veru iunfortunate to say them as antinatioanl, private club etc....
What we need is the full talent of player like Rahul and sachin, both batting without the pressure of captaincy, and to be frank neighther sachin nor rahul are the players with inborn qualities of a leader. any body who loves to see sachins batting wont play a gamble to make him a captain, we want him to perform him as a batsman.
Its only and only saurav who have all inborn qualities to be a true leader....

by shaik jaffar on Sep 18, 2007 04:05 PM  | Hide replies

Dravid quit because ahead is Australian tour and he is aware of the result., he dont want to face the challenge bcoz he is not confident, he is only playing as captain but not as a player, if he wanna quit he would hav done immediately after world cup loss, but he did not bcoz next was bangladesh tour., ha ha ha ha ha ., Dravid dont be so smart ., well we dont need u in the Squad u r blocking one player so pls pls pls retire as soon as possible., let youngsters like dhoni lift the responsibilities and face the challenges and "Inshallah" we will win over Australia.,

Why blame Agarkar alone? The other medium pacers are equally worse. So just blaming Agarkar is useless. Indian medium pacers are all the same. They are all mediocre. They are all unreliable and are unable to take wickets in order to win matches.

I totally agree..Agarkar has had way too many chances. I was never for kicking anyone out, but I think we have enough talent to fill in. On the fielding side, RP Singh has to stop playing football on the boundary line. ;-)

Agarkar - The current fall guy- but a ODI collossus for India
by Srinivasan Krishna on Sep 18, 2007 01:03 PM  | Hide replies

It is indeed a pity at the amount of rubbish haeped against this man, and even the respected Rediffmail sites correspondent has thought it fit , also to link Rahul's resignation with Agarkar's performance.
This is neither to criticise the public nor to support Agarkar. But facts have to be known.
I have seen Agarkar and have been following his contribution for the last 10 odd years he has been in international cricket. Just looking at his wicket taking ability and the 300 odd wickets he has taken so far, i really do not see where he lacks, except for a bit of waywardness early on.That probably is the reason he is not clubbed among the ODI bowilg greats like Pollock, Mcgrath, and up to an extent Vaas.
Even in the recent England ODI series, you just have to see the number of catches that were dropped off his bowling. And please do not assume he is the only guy who has lost the matches for us. Yuvraj, Dravid and RP have consistently not performed in the last ODI Series.I do not support Agarkar, but am all for Indian cricket. Fact is, we very very unfortunately do not have a strike bowler of his caliber to be replaced- mark my words ' strike bowler'.many came and went or keep going - Ankola,Mhambary,Kuruvilla,Balaji, joginder, kumaran, Nehra.....
Some are still being groomed like Irfan,Yo mahesh who have all round abilities. Munaf Patel is pretty useless for oneday cricket, just based on his fielding
The issue is we really do not have world class pacers since Kapil, but had g

Continued from my earlier message....
The issue is we really do not have world class pacers since Kapil, but had guys like Kumble & Agarkar who made up.
Srinath , all his life could never bowl the yorker or the reverse swinging ball. That was why Ajit Agarkar was always bowling at the slog and more often than not sachin asked to support him in the past decade!Only people who have played cricket at a competitive level can understand this, as for enthusiasts and buffs who have no playing experience can never appreciate what i am trying to say.
Public memory is short and the yeoman services of Agarkar is easily forgotten. Our many series triumphs against Auatralia, England etc. in the past has Agarkar's signature on them.
I saw a comment, that selectors have placed their faith time and again in Agarkar, for some reason. Well, the reason is that selectors have till date no good replacement for him and his wicket taking abilities and experience is what is needed currently.
Many youngsters who have seen cricket only in the past few years ( without actual playing experience) only see the loses and figures and comment instantly.I have hardly seen Australians criticise Warne or Fleming or Kasparowic or Gillespie when they got hammered by Sachin in a few series.( Glenn McGrath stayed backin Australia due to personal reasons)
It really takes a talented and hard working man to do what Agarkar has done for India cricket so far.
Let us respect and appreciate that.

Its true that Indians r gud at individual sports but certainly dont gel well as a TEAM because we become Regional and STATE centric.

WHy is PURE talent not given its DUE and a guy more capable than AGARKAR (who is bowling now at Dibbly dobbly pace ,(even a 10 yr old guy might hit him for SIXES)in the team.Everybody knows Agarkar is in the team becoz of Maharstrian lobby.

Some yrs ago it was KARNATAKA lobby when as many as 7 players were frm this state itself.

If we want to become NO.1 like Aussies we have to imbibe their cricket structure.TALENT n PERFORAMNCE should be SOLE criteria for staying in team and not LOBBY n FAVORITES system.See the cases of ZAHEER and GAnguly .

Agarkar was never groomed properly. Its right that he always got chances but not because of Mumbai Lobby but no replacement for him. Talking about his pace, at times though he bowls at 125 it all depends upon situation - He is someone who can easly go above 140. He was the fastest to get 50 wickets which Irfan couldnt do. But still Irfan Pathan is more famous than him. He has never been a media boy like others may be that was the reason but please remember he is the only pacer in the current Indian squad who has got 300 odd wickets. please support him or we are soon on a brink of loosing a good bowler fielder and to some extent a good batsmen too. Let the record say whatever the moment he will feel secure like the others - he would be a much better player than others. We would certainly need him in Australia as he is the person who has troublled many there.

Yeah surely we need AGARKAR coz he will be a great asset for opponent. Yeah you are right CHANDRA that he was fastest wicketaker till 50 but after that he was not performaring regularly. According to your stastistics he is the only bowler who has get 300 tickets. Do you have any idea how many matches he played, till date he player over 150 matches, rest you know the calculation. He not only taking wickets but also the amount of runs that he is giving away in the matter of concern for cricket loving people. Also he has most number of Ducks (Zeros) while batting in his name, a very bad lazy fielder as well. If you are cricket loving person, you know what the statistics says about Agarkar, no body has to come forward to defend Agarkar, the people who still favours Agarkar must be blind followers of him, or he bribed them or agarkar himself posting all these comments.
Agarkar is considered as Self Made shameless idiot.

Hey Nagarajan, Shall we talk Statistics?
Just mind your words before you abuse someone. Do you know where Agarkar stands in the Leading Wicket-takers list? Do you know where he stands on the best strike rate? do you know where his average stands? he's the 11th leading wicket-taker of all times and the 3rd Indian after Kumble and Srinath. He's next Indian to Pathan in Strike rates. His average is 3rd best after Kapil and Pathan.. He has got the most 4 wicket hauls for India. he holds the 3rd best bowling figures for India...

And apart from this as everyone knows, he has a century at Lords, fastest 50 by an Indian.. and holds 2 world records
- Fastest to 50 wickets
- Fastest to 200 wickets and 1000 runs...

Shall we still discuss statistics?
He's a great player and if you don't know about cricket and just watch commentaries and listed to stupid experts talking about Agarkar, and read stupid articles, you'll never get anywhere... OK??????

I haven't swung my arm for about 2 years now.. but its ok.. because even Agarkar bowls wide and its ok if I give away few runs for some matches.. b'cos Aggu also gives away runs always.. so practice or not doesn't matter.. can anyone recommend me?

Dravid just cares about his own record, and cares damn about India.
by sudhir dhar on Sep 18, 2007 07:15 AM  | Hide replies

Selectors have always backed the captain. If the selectors wanted Dravid could have been sacked immediately after the World Cup. There was so much claimer for that, but they did not give in.

It just shows that he wanted to win a series (England) and then move out. It was as if he wanted to prove a point. The Australia tour will be the toughest in recent times, probably he does not want to face failure.

Dravid resigned after expressing his opinion on the selection of the India 'A' team. He wanted a former India opener to be tried out before the away series against Australia.

Which clearly PROVES THAT DRAVID WANTED TO PRESSURISE PAWAR WITH HIS RESIGNATION, THINKING PAWAR/BCCI WILL PLEAD HIM TO RECONSIDER, BUT INSTEAD PAWAR, DID NOT PUT UP WITH DRAVIDS NONSENSE AND SAID-"I respect his decision."

Rest is history.
