Even on the easiest of pitches the batsmen need to play good shots...
by Brett on Dec 08, 2007 10:00 PM

I dunno whats all this about ganguly....he has been a good captain, cant completely say terrfic batsman but he did well today!Yuvraj played well, made the most of the single opportunity he got! He should be a regular in the test team....
personally I think Indians dwell a lot on past glory....what really matters is what ya do when ya are called to do the job! Simple as that....ppl with bad patches should be rested (sachin, dravid or saurav theres only so many chances you can give anyone).
I mean so many good players cant even make it to the playing 11!!!!
But one thing I would admit...ganguly's comeback has been that of a fighter! Ya dont see stuff like this too often in Indian Cricket (with all the lobbying and back biting)
Hope the Indian team plays well as a team wins this test and prepares for the aussie series(which is gonna be TOUGH)

Yuvi the best

I guess selectors were high on Ganja they made YUVRAJ sit outside. If their excuse was Yuvi's test record was not so good but Yuv'v track record against Pakistan is awesome in test cricket. In ODI's ,guy who has won MAN OF THE SERIES is left outside bunch of MORANS running the show.If you look at his past record he is the only player who has won MAN OF THE SERIES three times in row and performing consistently since 2005.Look at the knock he played today all over the ground and majority of them were classic shots & pls stop bashing Ganguly he is still not out and playing. Now Kumble has to think twice before dropping YUVRAJ ,can't believe he said(KUMBLE) "Yuvi has to wait for his turn".Yuvi is a team player excellent fielder and good runner between the wickets.Selectors pls don't be high on drugs next time you select a TEST team.

Dada made villain by fans
by Raam on Dec 08, 2007 09:54 PM  | Hide replies

I totally blame Gangulli supporters for the hatred what others have towards Gangulli. They were never appreciating other players even if they played good knoocks.Theywent to the extent of putting Gangulli above Sachin and Dravid in batsmenship which was absurd. they showered unnecessary praise on Gangulli even when he failed to score. For them Dada was God and others were demons who were there to distroy Dada. When he was removed for lack of form his fans blamed Dravid for the removal and started abusing him for no fault of his. they took the extreme step of supporting a forign team against the national team just because Dada was not playing in the team. All these disgraceful acts made non Bengalies to hate poor Gangulli. Unless we think above region, caste and relegion and open start appreciating any one who shows good performance Gangulli will continue to be looked up as villain in the eyes of non Bengalis.

Let us all accept Dada as very good batsman in Team India but cerainly he is not above Sachin and Dravid when comes to batting. Accept the facts and spare Gangulli from receiving brickbats which he certainly does not deserve.

U r right ram, I was a great fan of ganguly and its just because of his fans I had developed a hatred towards him. Look at his knock in bangalore, fantastic. The worst part of kolkatha crowd was to support a foreigh team against india just because ganguly did not play. Pathetic....

Even in this forum I see lot of postings made against dravid by ganguly fans not realizing the fact that both are good players. If I look dada as a member of indian team I feel proud of him, if I see him as bengali, its disgusting. Before someone post a reply, just think, I am not favouring any player from karnataka, even Dravid is not originally a kannadiga, he is a marati speaking guy, but we still support him.

I request to all bengalis is that think big, think india, you have good culture and you will be loved all over. Even if a bengali plays for karnataka, we still support, thatz the true spirit of a kannadiga...

cheers!!!!!

dude check wat u r saying..u just said that u dont like peaple bashing dravid..but u care to overluk the fact tht u guys bash ganguly like nething...but the fact tht ganguly despite the pressure has come on top speaks much high for him..he scored under pressure and guided yuvraj to an innings..did u see the way yuvraj embraced saurav after the century...and they stuck together..thts wat u call a team game..i doubt dravid or sachin had ever been as near as warm to neun...but now by current form..dravid goes out of the test team too..

bye bye dravid

Bengalis are extremely parochial. The reason is, for many decades Bengal never produce a quality sportsman of international repute, esp. cricket which is the biggest game of India. So all their hopes very pegged on one man, i.e., Ganguly. He become the only Hero (prince of kolkata), but there were four to five players of international stature from Karnataka itself. therefore the bengalis (even state govt) could not stand any injustice brought to him and stood by him even when he was not doing well. had their been four or five gangulies, hero-worshipping one would not have been necessary.

Its not a question of being from the south or east. You should have seen Ganguly's grit & determination to come back when he was dropped. From going to a railway ground for daily practice to playing domestic matches in places like Guwahati, Dhanbad and Siliguri to taking lessens in kick boxing to improve reflexes to running with a parachute tied to his waist, he has done it all. And boss, we Bengalis also support anyone who represents the state team.Arun Lal, Ashok Malhotra, Saba Karim,Manoj Tiwari etc are not Bengalis by birth but get unconditional love and affection from the people of Bengal. And to end, let me tell you that Rahul Dravid is one of the most technically correct cricketers this country has ever produced. LET US ALL CHEER FOR INDIA, OUR COUNTRY !!

We should not devide India in South India, north India, East India...for Cricket. World cricket statistics show that Saurav is a very high grade cricketer & best captain in Indian cricketer history & one of the bests in the world. Dirty politics is everywhere in India & Cricket also couldn't remain out of it & Ganguly is one of them who paid for this dirty politics.

Mr Ram, after reading your nonsense article I cannot stop myself writting something. Yes I am a fan of Sourav Ganguly but not because I am a bengali!! I was there in South India for nearly 4 year and what I observed is in south india the number of DADA's fan is not less than what in bengal!! Whats ur age I dont know..I dont know if u have seen some of his gems in 1996-2000!! Sourav,Rahul and Sachin are having same talent..but the difference is that SOURAV IS MUCH MUCH STRONGER THAN THESE TWO!!!! AND THE STRENGTH IS MENTAL STRENGTH!!!!! IT IS CALLED WILLPOWER!!! and his cricketing brain is far far better than anyone!!!We hate Dravid because HE COMPLETELY RUINED THE TEAM INDIA WHAT SOURAV CREATED with his politics!!!!!!! And that is true!! Next time when u write some article like this apply some grey cells (if u have)..I can say lots of thing on behalf of Sourav but I dont thing its worthy!! I will not attack south indian personally bacuse I dont like that!! But Mr can u give me the name of 10 south indian freedomfighters??????? I can give u 100 from Bengal!! ha ha! So go to some doctor and dont make urself fool!! Wish u a very best luck!!

And Dravid playing politics ..it was not Dravid ..but Mr Dalmiya who played the politics ..bcoz Sourav ruined his daughters like ..you can ask any of your journalist friends from kolkatta ..this was told to me by my bong journalist friends from Kolkatta ..

Even though his fans were totally unfair, I never really developed hatred for Ganguly. I used to fight these guys all the time. When Dada scored, I used to celebrate and come back and start fghting these guys. It was not just Bengalis, people from all over the country - whoever was a Dada fan, was talking the same way. Dropping Dada in 2005 was one of the best decisions in Indian cricket and bringing him back in 2006 was THE BEST decision in Indian cricket.

Do you guys really think it is the selectors who select the team? No.
The decisions are made by real bigshots who have and are pumping truck loads of money into Indian cricket. The selectors are there to give some credibility to the decisions made by some other people.

I seriously don't think Kiran More or Dilip Vengsarkar are the people selecting the team.

Shame on Indian media. nowhere i see any news about ICL. Don't be so biased. Give them also fair chance. There is nothing wrong in playing for ICL. Only 11 players can play for India at any given time. Then where all others suppose to go? Its a good sign that younsters are choosing sports as profession and ICL is one such job provider. I fail to understand why there is only a marginal coverage of a revolutionary idea such as ICL. Come on, Be Fair!

14 hundreds previous to this. Of which 3 match india Won, of those 3, 2 were against Zimbabwe.

The rest hundreds if noticed carefully were all on good batting tracks or the bowling attack was weak, example 2004 hundred against Australia came against Bichel, Bracken, Injured Gillespie and McGill. Bichel and Bracken were one day specialist. Or take example of Kolkata test. If Ganguly's career is to be studied, we then realise that India shouldnt have allowed him to play TEST Cricket at all.

He might have played well today, but a single hundred in pressure doesnt make a batsmen good. Kapils hundred against West Indies in 1982 at Port of Spain was much much greater, as it came against bowlers like Marshall, Holding, Roberts and Garner. But that didnt make Kapil a batsmen, he was yet a primary bowler, and an allrounder.

This match too might go to a draw.
