Why not Dravid
by Hemal Patel on Aug 11, 2007 01:35 AM  | Hide replies

Why is no one is saying anything about Dravid? I do not recall him making a big score in long time, everyone is after tendulkar. I am sure if tendulkar had scored like Dravid in this series, all hell would have broken loose. I think captaincy is affecting his game

Looks like Dravid is the only one who plays for India. I like Dravid but nowadays it is very irritating to see as if he is the only selfless cricketer.
First of all can u explain what does it mean by playing for India? Can we say Dravid played for India in this series or even in SA series? What is the basis for all this rubbish talk?
I want to know if A B works for India rather than for himself.
Cricket is a profession and everyone is playing for a fee. I dont think Dravid is playing free of cost. All are playing in such a way that they are selected in the team regularly. Dravid is no exception.

I think Mr/Ms A B is the most disgusting person. Team India is for the country of India. Kumble is the player of Indian team and he played very well and he has done that many times. He plays for India and not South India. So non-sense person stop your bong, and northies, and ghatis.

Why is it that we always need to fight always about every issue on this board?? Any other country would have celebrated the fact that a team performed like a team. And that we are winning a Test series in England after so many years. Guys celebrate this moment. We, Indians know that for us, celebration like this comes only once in a while. Forget petty differences and think positive. Enough of this northie, southie, bong, etc etc crap. :))

Never count your chickens before they are hatched!! We have still NOT WON this test series!!
England can score 500 and say bowl India out for less than 150 in 4th innings!!
Then anything can happen!!
Wait until the end of tom, only then we would be able to assess the situation!!
I know it is a very long shot, maybe 99% India are there!!
But that 1% makes cricket a sport of glorious uncertainties!!

A captain has to take decision as per the situation. Their India had to Win remember it was the first test and India had to force the pace. Here India is already 1 up in the series. They only need a draw. So longer the players plays better it is. I don't any fault in either of the decisions.

Sachin was too slow in that match. He was playing for himself and not for the team. Dravid had no alternative but to declare then. Dravid has guts to take such decision. When Sachin was offered captainship, he had disappeared for 2 days in Lonavala. With all due respect to him, Sachin does not anymore play for the team. Dravid is a very good captain really. Congratulations to Kumble on his 1st hundred. Somebody has written a letter above (without name) that Kumble is a better batsman than Dravid! Ridiculous! Just one century does not make him that.

hey deshpande do u know how much hard work and pain it takes to make a double hundred? if somebody have taken the pain to reach 195 then he deserves 200 no matter how slow he was. You know India wins 87% of the matches when sachin scores and he shouldnt be deprived of making a ton jus because of 5 runs. His records make me proud and no matter whatever happens he will be the best batsman in the world. Way to go sachin.

I totally agree with what Dravid has done today. It was a genuine innings from kumble without giving any chances. If you remember properly sachin just needed 6 runs for 200. He hardly got 3 or 4 balls in last 4-5 overs. yuvaraj was playing well at the other end. Do u think one or two more overs will make a big change??? By the expression of Sachin that day it was clear that he was unaware of declaration. Not a fan for any individual. What he did on that day was a big mistake by not supporting his teammate. Will Dravid do the same if he is on the same score??? I don%u2019t think so? No one in the world will do that. If u think Lara, Dravid, Atapattu and Ricky are the best test batsmen of this era, each of them played more than 120 tests that means more than 200 test innings and they scored 9,5,6,4 double centuries respectively%u2026u can see the conversion ratio%u2026. scoring a 200 in pakistan against pakis is obviously a dream not only for Sachin...its a dream for every Indian.

To all sachin haters

Why the hell u people r bothered abt strike rate in a TEST match!!!!!! Do u really understand TEST match cricket!!!! If u really saw his innings, the bowlers were targetting his rib cage. Most of the balls were short pitch deliveries. The important thing is he played sheet anchor role. The role which Dravid used to play. And today he was aggressive. He is playing according to the situation. Imagine if he got out trying to improve scoring rate yesterday. We could have lost many wickets after his departure. Moreover, he is playing the role which might have already discussed with the team. If the team wants him to be aggresive he'll be. Hope somebody accept my arguement.

Fine. What was the role was given to Tendulkar? To hang in there and be on crease on Day 2 to increase morale of the batsmen to follow. It was well and good and he made the task look simple.

But after batting for an hour or so he could have gone and started to play his game and score some quick runs. He didn't do it. He seemed out of sorts just like in 2nd innings of Trent bridge.
all of a sudden he seems a genius and then suddenly falters like a fool. Any way the Indians showed that it doesn't need tendulkar to score big runs in order to post a huge total. Way to Go and Thanks Sachin...

The difference between Tendulkar and Kumble!!
by AK47 on Aug 11, 2007 12:19 AM  | Hide replies

When Sachin Tendulkar was stranded on 194 at Multan after Dravid declared with India at 675 for 5, Tendulkar went to the press and gave way to his surprise and ire directed at Dravid!! The fact that he missed his double was not taken with good grace!!

But i can confidently say that even if Dravid had declared with Kumble stranded, Kumble would have taken it with good grace and moved on!! Surely he would not have made an issue out of it!!

One is a selfish guy who puts personal records above team goals and the other is a teamman to the core!!

In this match, the 82 he scored took 192 deliveries!! The wicket was so good, so flat, that even Sreesanth was looking like a top order player!!

Yet the "Master" played as if there were devils in the pitch!!
What more can i say????????

You obviously have not played the game at any competitive level to understand it well enough. What we really needed was someone to play the anchor role and I think Sachin did it really well. You should see the figures for the partnerships he was part of. Had he tried to play aggressively and lost his wicket in the bargain do you think any one of the others would have been able to play as freely as he did? And you compare Sreesanth's innings to his...you obviously don't realise how easy it is for a tailender to come in and swing his bat with 600 runs on the board as compared to a top order batsman who has to build the innings for the team. Bottom line....Sachin was the spine of the innings and you should analyze your thoughts a little before making such strong statements!!

There's no denying the fact that his game changed a great deal in past few years. I agree he is not the same aggressive player he once was. The point I'm making is this does not make him any less effective. If you guys don't see the importance of his 192 ball 82, so be it. It was the backbone of our innings and I'm sure even Kumble, Karthik or Dhoni would be the first to say that....

MR Yash Vyavaharkar, you have given an excue that he played a sheet anchor role!! But Sachin's natural game, all these years was an attacking one where he would tear to shreds any bowling attack in the world!!
The sheet anchor role was left to Dravid and VVS!!
So why is he playing that role now?? Shouldn't he be destroying the bowling and scoring at a brisk rate??
I might not have played cricket at any competitive level, but i do understand the game well enough to say that his style of play has changed a lot over the last two years!!

Everyone does not have the same physical capacity. Tendulkar has lost lot of his physical strength due to injuries.... Lara/richards didn't have to contend with half the injuries tendy had. They also didn't have to carry the burden of a billion hopes when ever they went to play.
