The Matrix of Cricket

We feel extremely uncomfortable nowadays for we do not know what's what. What's a game and what it is not.there are times when we do feel that players are actors, that India must win the crucial game sponsored by an Indian company. The fit case of a lover having been ostracized to the hotel room, in front of the tv set, where he watches his beloved to be courted by his bitterest enemy. Feel the satisfaction denied to countries that have no money but only satisfaction. Our Big Brothers have to convince us now that it's cricket and nothing else.

U jus made your point... but lost a lot of readers
by Sidd on Jul 29, 2004 10:39 PM

good one... probably should not have been on rediff though... there are very few things indians can cheer about, as u mentioned in your article about riots, fights etc... and cricket is one of those... the other is probably BPO! So if cricket is just a game, why do you have to try and see things which are not critical. I am sure many readers flock to rediff for cricket news and if you have such articles on this website, I can guarantee that you will lose many readers. Rediff has to be more responsible in choosing what kind of articles it is publishing... people are not fools... if india was losing, then hockey would probably be more popular than it is today. cricket makes indians feel proud about themselves. We have the best batsman in the world in our team. And a few more stars. They haven't become stars overnight. They have worked harder than we can imagine and delivered results. Only successful people are popular. So jus take certain things on face value. And let cricket remain cricket.

Nah! not a good way or writing
by Rao Desineni on Jul 29, 2004 10:17 PM

This is certainly not a good way of writing. I write my emails like this. C'mon, this one is supposed to be journalistic article..not an email. Jumping around topics, between Kashmir and cricket, between batting and bowling... Nope! this kind is a strict no! no! Readers, atleast I, am not entertained.

Its possible.... oh yeah its possible
by Rahul on Jul 29, 2004 10:08 PM

Somehow the author was able to write down every single feeling I have been having while watching the cricket matches lately.

Fancy fixing or hardcore fixing... fixing matches is still a crime and if this is happening then may be we should just stop watching cricket.

Somehow deep inside I felt that India will not lose the match against SL and voila! it happened... I won't be surprised if Murali is thrashed in the finals and India win the Asia cup (not without the usual, fixed and planned nail biting, edge-of-the-seat moments).

What is he trying to say ??
by Rajeev on Jul 29, 2004 09:53 PM

Bizzare and dramatic language doesn't make a good article. What is the author trying to say here ?

Does he mean that the game is fixed to the last ball ? Does he mean that Zaheer was added to the list because some corporate wanted him there ? Does he mean that Jayasurya got out as part of a script ? Does he mean that the india-paksitan match was fixed so that the next match will attract people ?

Does he mean that Dravid is not performing because hutch wanted him not to perform ?

I think he does not mean ANYTHING.

He says "And we thought India beat Sri Lanka by four runs and advanced to the final of the Asia Cup on Tuesday.". yeah we all thought that. But what else did happen there ? Please enlighten us ...

He says "Maybe he (sehwag) needs to be promoted as a Test player". But dude, he IS already a test player !

The author had just put down some words from here and there. He is not voicing an opinion. Nobody gets the message, if at all there is something.

I will put it in his words..This article is a crap. It had to be. It is. It would be.

You should stop writing. You could. You should. You have to. ha ha ha

Amm I beginning to sound like Arundathi?

Rajeev

All in Hindsight

Why do all the articles about match fixing appear after the events are over, after the drama has been seen and after you have had time to make your own long story about it. I would like to challenge the author of this article to predict the result of the final before the end of tomorrow with all his corporate antennae tuned up and tell us who will be the stars of the asia cup final. If even one of his predictions prove wrong, would he promise to let all cricket fans watch the game in peace instead of making such unjust, baseless and funny accusations!

Rediff should not encourage such articles. After the game has seen many fixings, this article is a dumb one.I think the person who wote this sees more of negatives than the positives of life.If you are that sure of fixing why don't you challenge this in a court of law. Could you please tell me what the result for the Final would be? I can predict your thought. If india wins you would say the Power house of Asian cricket had to win to make it's marketers happy. If Srilanka wins then you would just twist your tongue and say that since the sport was loosing it's charm this is the shot in tha arm. Howzaatt?
