Hope his best is still to come!
by Salil Kader on Aug 06, 2004 02:28 PM

HE is the greatest. Accepted. But even the greatest needs to deliver from time to time to stay the greatest. There was a lot of brouhaha over Sachin being asked to bat at 3 or 4. Experts told us that our best batsman should open and that he should get to face the maximum number of overs. So Sachin came back to opener's slot. But our best batsman, batting at his favourite position and getting to face the maximum number of overs still could not get us to a simple 229. Sachin batted for about 40 overs and scored 70! Is that what you expect from your best batsman? Well now experts say his best is yet to come. And so we too hope (for the good of cricket in this country) that his best comes soon.

Tendulkar and past glory
by Indraneel karfa on Aug 06, 2004 02:20 PM

The article had a admirers view of his fan, but was far from accepting the heart felt truth.

Tendulkar to me seems like a spent bullet, spent primarily by over ambition, and unending desires. If a player from sachins time roughly same age with same exposure stands taller grows stronger with every match, whom people call with love as "THE WALL" , why couldn't Tendulkar grow up to be a "Mountain".

If we go by the authors sentiments that he set high standards for himself, why does this not happen with someone of the type of Sir Bradman.

I suppose the answer lies some where in the fact that tendulkar had nothing more to contribute for Indian cricket except occupy a bearth permanantly in India Eleven.

real sachin
by naresh on Aug 06, 2004 02:17 PM

I think, its time for sachin to say goodbye to cricket, and let cricket-india search one new "real sachin". Looks like he is more worried about himself and doesnot care about team's pride.

India would have won fianl, if Sehwag or Saurav wud have played same number of ball, sachin played.

Where is the real Sachin?

Whenever Saahin scores India lose? He is not at all a match winner but a record creator. God will not bestow everthing on an individual so Sachin is arecord creator but not amatch winner.

Re : Sachin-not the one whom we saw in earlier days
by joy thakar on Aug 06, 2004 02:07 PM

I totally disagree with the media about sachin-not like in earlier days.....Its always sachin who got stranded and stood up at one end seeing many so-called strong opening and middle-order batsmen failed

one by one. How can one expect it only from sachin?

Being a matured and experience player he had planned the game accordingly but Ganguly / Laxman / yuvraj / kaif miserably failed to go for the bowling when sachin is on the other end playing sheet-anchor role.

Otherwise the things could have been the other way for india.

DONT ALL OF US SHOULD AGREE TO THIS?????

where is real sachin?

I agree that lately sachin hasnt performed to the standards he has set over the years for himself however I totaly agree with Sunil Gavaskar's view that the best of Sachin is yet to be seen. I feel that in one day cricket the team should stop relying heavily upon Sachin. Instead Sachin should be given a free hand. Sachin should be only asked to tear the bowling apart irrespective of whats happening at the other end of the wicket. Sachin role should not be an anchors role. We have great players like Dravid and Laxman in our team to hold the wicket at the other end. Players like Sachin, Shewag, Yuvaraj & Ganguly should only concentrate on playing their original/natural game. Hitting the ball hard and tearing the opposition bowling apart. They shouldnt allow the bowlers to settle down. Its very clear from the way Shewag and Yuvaraj bat that their batting has been inspired by the young Sachin Tendulkar of late 80's and early 90's. Sachin should go back to his natural game in oneday cricket. Hope others players in the team start taking more responsibilites and leave Sachin to play his natural game. Sachin all that we want to see is you scoring runs at a brisk pace. We miss the power.

Should he still be given the opening slot?
by Pranav on Aug 06, 2004 02:01 PM

In mordern day cricket, the first 15 overs have assumed a lot of importance. Even in the Asia Cup final, it was crucial for India to score quickly in the first 15 overs, which it did not. It is true that the rest of the team should shoulder more blame for the defeat, but some of the dismissals, like Mohd. Kaif's, where due to pressure of the increasing required run-rate. I would recommend to send in a more attacking player than Sachin, someone like Yuvraj. Sachin could probably come in around the same number as Dravid, now that they play the same way.

Yes it hurts.
by Davesh Manocha on Aug 06, 2004 02:01 PM

The way we saw Tendulkar struggling against the likes of Chandana & Dilshan in the Asia Cup final was very hurting. His image has been an hallowed one for every Indian since the last 15 years. Many have come & gone but Tendulkar has been above all ever since he scored that century against Australia in 1991.Hes the most followed & most scrutunized cricketer ever to land on this planet.Never ever in the history of cricket has one dismissal (1998 when he was given out LBW to McGrath in Australia when ball hit him on his elbow) raised controversy to such legendary level. But today hes a diff MAN & thats what hurts the most.We always wanted Tendulkar to be the same 16 yr old boy.We are dying to see that fiersom pull & cut shots. We want him to step down the wicket & send ball out of the ground (if not bowler). For the major part of his career he was playing in a team that lacked any determination to win.Now he has got the team & we want our very own Tendulkar to come back again & show what he is.MIND IT THERES NO DIMINISHING OF TALENT BCOZ WE HAVE SEEN HIM DOING HIS WONDER JUST 1 YR AGO IN THE WORLD CUP.COME ON TENDULKAR ONCE MORE.

Who can mellow his power and still make 241 and 194 not out in consecutive test matchs ? Who can win World cup s man of series even though his team has lost badly ? WHo guides one of his younger team mates to a triple ton or a new debutant to his first test 50 who goes on to score a 100 in next test inn ? WHo displays his best aganst likes of Warne, McGrath ? WHo s repsonsible for india s 2 test series wins in India over Aussies...who has played key role in almost every victory scored under Ganguly home and abroad ?

MAny mroe questions and answers come in one man Sachin Tendulkar.
