It is sad the poor labourers returning home on are harassed by the customs officers at the international airports in our country on the pretext of bringing in revenue for the government. It is heart-breaking to see a poor labourer returning from the middle-east, having to part with a chunk of his savings, as 'customs-duty'.
I find it hard to justify imposing customs-duty on the poor labourer bringing consumer items (especially after years of labour), and not for luxury items like Ferraris. Sachin is a good cricketeer and he gets paid handsomely for it. It is not that he is cash-strapped. If there is a rule, why is it not mandatory for everyone?
It is very sad to see that SACHIN has at the first instance sought a tax waiver from the Ministry of Finance, on the Ferrari gifted to him. The question arises why should he seek charity, on the costly gift (not a prize anyway) when as a multimillionaire, it is well within his reach and capacity to pay the legitimate tax levied on the car. It is his duty as any honest citizen of India to pay the taxes due, however big a man , a cricketeer he may be. We salute him for his cricketting prowess but as far as taxes, he has to pay, he must pay. I would also blame the Ministry for showing such undue, unjust and hasty with such charitable benevolence. The tax on the car is not undue, as such Sachin must pay. Great men in such places must set up examples in best tradition and not take undue advantage of their position.
I thin India government should wiave it off, He has done so much for the country, time to pay him back. He deserves it and please give respect to such a big mastero.
the action by delhi H C to serve notice to sachin is absolutely correct.he is a citegen of india & all rules are applicable to him. the finance ministry has defaulted in this case by allowing the waiver. he earns crores. why should he be given this special treatment. he should pay the duty.
I strongly think it is incorrect and immoral on Sachin to ask for a waiver specially when he can afford to pay the duty. Millions of indians dutifully pay taxes and i don't understand the reason why a rich sportstar can't pay his due tax. Being reserved doesnot mean a person is simple. Why should a person wear foreign branded items, enrol his child in a posh school, introduce restaraunts and a range of clothing ? Why not fund the needy players who go unnoticed but are equally talented if he is that simple and concerned?
The media gives undue coverage to him and I feel though he is talented, being an indian, he must perform his duties properly.
