Can't we exempt tax atleast to Indian Pride
by Shashi Mahendrakar on Aug 13, 2003 10:25 PM

Hi all,
When Tendulkar wins the game for us millions of Indians feel very happy, Then why cant we agree for the tax exemption when Cricket Great would feel happy for the tax exemption. May be Tendulkar is rolling in wealth today. But atleast once we can exempt tax for the Indian Pride. Moreover he lives to us expectations when he is on the FIELD.

Tendulkar & the Ferrari
by Koshy Varghese on Aug 13, 2003 10:20 PM

Much as I love Sachin - he ought to have paid the duty. That would have gone a long way in enhancing his standing among the people of India - in fact the whole cricketing world.

HC notice to Tendulkar on Duty waiver.
by Murthy Mamidanna on Aug 13, 2003 10:13 PM

HC notice is absolutely right. No matter whether a person is famous or not, everyone should abide by law of the land. Particularly, a person of Tendulkar's stature should not have requested the duty waiver.

Come on Sachin dikha do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Prem K.Saith on Aug 13, 2003 10:12 PM

Sachin should not delay it anymore and donate the equal amount (Rs.1.13 crores)for the cause of poor and under priviledged ones of our society.I am sure Sachin would respect the dignity and feelings of an office going clerk who pays income tax first and then the school fee of his child. Come-on Sachin Dikha do , India ko Jita do.
Amen!!!!!!!!!

waiver of duty on free gift
by narendrajoshi on Aug 13, 2003 10:09 PM

This is really shameful on the part of not only tendulker but also those who have supported such act.Law should be applicable for all citizen specially those who sets examples for mass.Tendulker easily pay such amount or else he should have asked his followers to contribute for it. I support Pune NGO's for their action, even iwould like to donateRs.5 so that our maestro batsmen can enjoy duty free Ferrari .Shameful.

Cheap publicity
by Rajesh on Aug 13, 2003 10:09 PM

Come on guys...don't seek cheap publicity by shouting agaist OUR OWN TENDULKAR. surely public not gonna support u. Instead go and do some thing about corrupt polticiands and govt. empolyees. Hey but bet ur not going to get any publicity out of it. So bet u won't try that. All said and done, even honest tax payers like me are perfectly ok with th fact that there is duty waiver for sachin. He is our hero and makes us indians proud.

Kudos
by Benny Joseph on Aug 13, 2003 09:51 PM

Kudos to the HC for taking on the powerful and mighty of the land.Sachin like others of his ilk including most film stars do not donate a single paisa to the poor or needy but fatten themselves while pretending all the time that they are doing all this for thir country.

Will Rediff have the guts to put it on view-I doubt
