HC notice to Tendulkar
by Nari on Aug 13, 2003 08:05 PM

There is no reason to waive duty on a car which has been gifted (not won), specially since the recipient is in a position to pay the duty many times over. The revenue could always be used for social purposes if the govt is so eager to forego it.

Sachimn's ferari
by b.l.lyntee on Aug 13, 2003 07:54 PM

It is indeed a shame that Sachin the richest kid in the country, having hundred of crores to his credit would seek waiver of taz on his luxurious gift!If in honour of his contribution to cricket for the country, the tax was waived, it would have lifted his image its glorious height if he were to suggest that as a responsible citizex, he would still pay the tax and advice the concern authorities to make good use of it instaed!Think of the homeless. the hungry children in the streets of Mumbai itself. Sachin bhai you have lower your self esteem. your image in the indian public has fallen . You have prove that you are not matured, not generous and not concern for the underprivilege. Your 1205 taz money could have saved the lives of hundred of children in your wife's hospital!!! I am truly disappointed in you my fallen hero!

Sachin Tendulkar and the Ferrari
by S.Jacob on Aug 13, 2003 07:49 PM

Indeed it is a pity that we make so much fuss over small things like a gift for a talented sports person. The country has more than its share of scams involving many public figures. What is happening to all those scams? We are making ourselves a laughing stock in the eye of the world

What NonSense?
by Neeraj Boddapati on Aug 13, 2003 07:49 PM

A true fighter: if there is any person in India who inspires many people in the country it is undoubtedly Sachin Tendulkar. Today, he sees a court notice. This is just ridiculous. Agreed he makes a lot of money, at the same time he is a philanthropist. Indian Soldiers and Indian Sportsman get all the notices while they should be directed towards the politicians. First the Judiciary and Politics should be clean then issue notices!!!!

Injustice !!
by Ganesh on Aug 13, 2003 07:48 PM

It would be gross injustice if the duty waiver is waived off ! Sachin, by virtue of being a National Icon shouldnt even have thot about such a possbility.

I hope justice would prevail, and we the so called 'Ordinary' 'Middle class' 'salaried' guys wont look like paying Taxes through our noses !

Come On Sachin!! You are too great for all this pittance.
by aditya on Aug 13, 2003 07:43 PM

It is time that the demi god status of cricketers in India is brought to earth.True Sachin has brought laurels to the country . In return let us remember that he has received the unadulated love and affection from the countryman and has been treated more than equal. In the ultimate analysis Sachin should not have asked for this exemption and in the true sense of his excellance should have led from the front in setting an example which would have further extolled his virtue. After all he has been no exception to the human tendency for greed. Is it not what he has amassed not sufficient. On the eve of our 56th Independence Day Sachin should realise that a substantial percentage of his countryman are leaving under abysmal levels of poverty and he should pay the relevent charges to the country's exchequer for enjoying the Ferrari ride.

hc notice to tendulkar
by naveen sharma on Aug 13, 2003 07:37 PM

delhi high court deserves kudos for taking suo moto cognizance of the tax waiver to tendulkar. politicians and ministers should be ashamed that they never ever think about the poor and deproved in the country. it is only genuine ngos and more deserving people such as those who lost their limbs while fighting for the nation which should get such benefits and waivers. And not the tendulkars of this world who have enough to fund their luxuries.
