Say if Pakistan is divided into five nations, Balochistan, Sindh, Wazirstan, PakistanPunjab and NWF.
India can benifit because:
1) India can have friendly ties with Sindh and Balochaistan. Trade etc.
2) India can have better access to MidEast oil via Sindh region.
3) Usual India hating elements in PakistanPunjab and Pak army will have their own conflict with Wazirstan and NWF.
4) Afganistan will influence NWF and keep PakistanPunjab enganged in usual military and terrorist conflicts. This will bleed PakistanPunjab for decades.
5) Kashmir will then naturally cool down.
6) Easier for India to attack and claim back Sindhu valley in future.
Should India, Afganistan and Russia try to divide pakistan? It is certinly possible.

Arjun, this is great idea. An American military think tank published a futuristic map in one of its journals where NWFP and Baluchistan. Now Pushto nationalism is getting mixed with islamic extremism and NWFP is getting destabilized. If somehow pathan generals in the Pakistani military revolt against the Punjabi ruling elite, NWFP separation is not beyond possibility. Baluchi nationalists are not getting strength only because Iran fears that Baluchis on Irani side will revolt against Iran. But if NWFP separates, they can establish bases there are start a separatist insurgency from there. Sindh is difficult because Sindhis are in minority in the military and the division between Muhajirs and Sindhis will prevent a joint fight against Punjabis. But yes, if Pakistan breaks, it will be advantageous to India not just for oil pipeline but also for the regional dominance. However, Pakistan will split only if America favors the split, at least does not prevent it by supporting the central government. Russia is no more a player in the region. The separation of central asian republics have increased the geographic distance of Russia from the South Asian region.

Nehru by refusing to hand over power to Jinnah is to be blamed for creaton of theocratic Pakistan which is pain for India/world .Besides Nehru's power greed caused millions of innocents getting butchered at partition time besides uprooting of crores after making them penny less paupers from the most fertile land of their fore fathers for the time immemorial and mass rapes/insults to hindu women folks. Now COMMIES/CONGIS will show it their game plan after thousands of killings in wars with Pakistan over Kashmir/Bangla desh beisdes burning billions of Rupees.

Huge books have been written on the causes of partition and I agree that Nehru shares part of the blame if not full. But how the comment is linked to the internal situation in Pakistan?

We might be lay people but Arjun's comment that Pakistan may split is not ludicrous. Strategic experts in US military are already considering this possibility. I have a Pakistani ex-diplomat friend in my university who candidly acknowledged that Pakistan is an unstable state in a 10-20 years timeframe. That does not mean it will break but it 'can' break.
