I am compelled to comment .Islam has to be seen in the social context where it emerged.In those days ,the man were having unlimited number of wifes. Prophet only tried to ristrict that number by saying "you can have one ,two ,three or upto foue wife not more than that"virtullay it was a ristriction . Islam does ask to have four wifes but it ristricts it.Now what is position in Hindu religion,sorry to say as per our great religion we can have any number of wife.One wife norm is the gift of Hindu Marriage Act 1955 ,which contains lot of non-hindu practice (it ignores Kanya Daan,Gardharv Vivah, Rakhsash Vivah) etc. In islam there is atleast some liabilities in case of divorce but in Hindu religion there is none.(safe gaurd is provided thru HMA 1955). Now talk about status.Why we forget Manu Simriti, Tulsi Dass comment and also treating woman as a property in the Hindu Religion. What is Kanya Daan . As per Manu Simriti "girl is a property of a father and he is to donate it to man as wife and there after she is property of her husband"
In islam woman have right in the property of the father(Duktari) but in hindu religion no such right.Let us not forgat the tradition of Satti in Hindu Society. Today what the Hindu Woman has got i9s not by virtue of the "Pro Woman Hindu Religion" but due to progressive Hindu Personal law which are at many point anti Hindu. What is required is to modify Muslim personal law to make it more human family as the old traditional law are out dated.I am no
