Unfortunate Article
by ACHINTA ROY on Dec 02, 2010 02:04 PM  | Hide replies

The article is very unfortunate. The comments of the Bangladeshi musician is out of communal feelings and so should be ignored, no doubt. But this article is also incorrectly constructed. Rafi is the King. Kishore can be second only if at all it is correct to make any comparison. Manna Dey, Hemant Kumar, Talat, Mahendra Kapoor are all good, but not great like Rafi. Rafi is the Badshah. He deserved more and would have got more, had he not died pre-maturedly. But his nation has given him the ultimate. Love and recognition of the common.

That's your opinion. For me, Kishore is the greatest and is unbeatable.

you can sing songs of Kishore, but not of rafi. If you have slight knowledge, you will know! If you still do not understand, no body can make you understand. You are the unfortunate one.

Immortal-SZupreme Rafi sahab
by javed sayyed on Jun 27, 2010 11:41 AM

Its pathetic to see certain few disgusted people with little & biased musical sense trying to comment on a personality like Rafi Sahab. If Actors wanted Rafi it was because of his unique inimitable divine quality of singing in their own voices with such emotions & subtlety that is only his forte. Other singers had very prominent voice rigid to their own singing style which in no way measured even to a fraction of rafi Sahabs talent. BR Chopra used Mahendra Kumar to his own peril-pl check the voice quality in those films!! Imagine Rafis voice & sweetness & Melody in them & what we missed out!!The songs themselves speak their own story.

Rafi was not given his due.

Rafi posessed a marvellous voice very suited for quwalis, romantic duets, fast paced weestren numbers. he got his dues. he was awarded padmashri. yes other singers notably manna dey, hemantkumar, kishorekumar were ignored unnecessarily. manna dey had a great fluency in classical and comic singing, hemant had a divine voice, kishorewas as versatile as rafi in a different range(comic, serious sad songs, romantic solos, western numbers) and possessd a divine voice like hemant( remeber, jeevan se na har jenevale, ye jeevan hai, zindagi ka safr, aanewala pal, aa chalke muze, kab tak andhere, kahi door gagan ki chaoneme 9 by hemant). Hemat got padmashri yesudas got padmabhushan , kishore is not hnotred by govt so is rd burman. zo there are many who did not get heir dues. in contrast rafi got padmashri and was crowned with topsinger till 69 . frankly hough rafi sang with ease many songs something divine lacked and one does not find great deep songs. but yes gr8 kawwalis, gr8duetds, beautiful "khoya khoya chand"

rafi

Its only once in a century that a singer of the calibre of rafi is born. If music directors, actors, etc. wanted rafi to sing for them it speaks volumes about the capacity of rafi to be able to sing any kind of song for any kind of actor (be it dilip kumar, johny walker or joy mukherjee). We love him and the day he died in 1980 I was amongst the millions in this world who shed a silent tear for this great Man. - ram
