Mayawati and the UP politics
by Krishan Arora on May 13, 2008 06:11 PM  Permalink

I think the Central Govt must only concentrate on the price control, infrastructure building, reservation based on economics disparities, removal of property, employment Guarantee Schemes, claiming credit for the RTI, exploring the benami property deals of Mayawati in the Capital and elsewhere, working in close liasion with SP, RLD and also BJP. All this will slowly finish the caste based politics of Mayawati.

LOL LOOSERS.She alongwith kanshiram has awaken a community which was persecuted by the so called upper caste hindus who are still ruling india though they (so called upper caste hindus) are merely 12 to 15% of india's population,I hope that the dalits who are more than 50% in the population and more indians than aryans will one day rule or atleast be better than so called upper caste hindus.

Mayawati has potential but danger lurks

I was delighted when Mayawati managed to attract people from all communities to vote for her BSP and spoke of SARVAJANA HITH (development & prosperity for all). Forget about her beinng a Dalit, she put paid to the casteist and divisive politics of both the Samajwadi Pparty of Mulayam and the BJP. The Congress of course is a spent force in UP. She is danger of losing all the support & goodwill of the people of UP if she dosent deliver results. She may argue that she had to undo a large part of the damage the corrupt Mulayam regime right from the police recruitment scam to the questionable land deals. But instead of big bashes, jumborees and tokenism like building Ambedkar parks and installing Kanshi Ram statues, she needs to focus on core issues like infrastructure development, healthcare, education, law & Order, Power, etc. The caste lobbies will otherwise come roaring back and take UP politics back to square one. She also needs to guard against sycophants who will exploit their closeness to her. She definitly holds out promise but there is a long long way to go. I pray something similar to the Mayawati phenomenon happens in Karnataka which has descended into an absolute morass of caste based politics. But the real tragedy would be if Mayawati squanders the mandate that she has been given by the people of UP. Empowerment does not come by just building monuments or entering temples. Empowerment comes from economic development, access to modern education, Transportation facilit

Empowerment does not come by just building monuments or entering temples. Empowerment comes from economic development, access to modern education, Transportation facilities to markets for labour work or products in urban areas, access to healthcare and building awareness of laws & fundamental rights as laid down by the Law. Caste explotation of the poor & backward is very closely linked to economic & educational parameters. This society respects people with money or economic muscle. Any economically empowered backward community will automatically develop political might and relevance which can end exploitation. All these statues and grand memorials are mere tokenism and only useful to the birds like Crows & Pigeons who perch and shit on each one of them. A small PHC or school is thousand times more valuable than a statue or memorial

In fact one of Mayawati's biggest blunders has been the refusal to Reliance Fresh. Reliance Fresh for example could have cut through the chain of middlemen/dealers in agricultural produce of the poor farmers and labourers ensuring they get a fair price and return on their investment & labour. Another thing is the sudden wealth and property she and her family members are now flaunting. Else like a certain Jayalalitha who was MGR's political heir squandered almost 90% of her popularity due to her arrogance, imperious behaviousr and allegations of huge corruption, Mayawati should stay firmly rooted in the spirit of service to the downtrodden who have now brought her to the throne of UP!!

entire thing smacks of Ghamand and abhiman
by lalit kedia on May 13, 2008 05:41 PM  Permalink

all this episodes does not show of a good ruler or development oriented politicians but very high level of GHAMAND and ABHIMAN on the electoral success.

these are short lived in public memory, general public will get fed up of unemployment, inflation, food shortage and police high handedness, then you again see these politicians running for cover.
hope sense prevails over ghamand and state like uttar pradesh does not become only vishram sthal or udyan.

well said nalin ,
we already are seeing the effect of quota system and caste based politics being played by mayawati ...just imagine our IPS , IAS officers are incompetent to take decision due to lack of willness ...they always try to appease people like mayawati..who is doingnothing except for building memorials ...and mulayam will demolish these memorials...that,s why i call UP as ULTA PRADESH rather than uttar Pradesh...guess Uttaranchal people are lucky to have got in to separate ways...

i saw someone jubilating that she is making brahmins touch her feet and will soon make them work in fields...i don't doubt that!

given the state of affairs in UP and the reverse industrialization, the day is not far away wen all will work in fields.

After one year does anyone cares to ask her why is thr a 16hrs power-cut in kanpur everyday?
leave aside bhar-pet-bhojan - wat a person, who is not getting even a gud nite's sleep, supposed to do??

the fat-ass is jumping to sit on PM's chair...did anyone ever hear her talking out her foreign policy, would she mind telling us wat's her take on Nuke Deal?

How much price are we supposed to pay for the stupidity of our daba-kuchla bhai-behens

They were very rightfully kept out of governance all these years!!

Correct man ... very much right ... What she is doing ... she is neither bothered about indutrilization nor searching better power resources....
People from UP are forced to work in some other states .. We are giving our hard earned money to some other state in form state specific tax/VAT etc... It would be so good if Gov take some initiative to improve these condition ...
