National Pride!
by Sumit Vig on Jul 13, 2006 05:43 AM  Permalink

Some thoughts!

Foreigners invade, rape, loot, and plunder us for 10 centuries. But we take pride in being "son chiriya" and having survived them.

The next set of foreigners fool, loot, and plunder us for 2 centuries.World war 2 commtiments and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose make their occupation unprofitable, and as they leave they Divide our land as a parting retribution, which suits the personal ambitions of 2 charismatic leaders. But we take pride in an impotent non-violence movement, and a charismatic first prime minister.

Hindi-Chini bhai-bhai. Denial?
This should help: They attack us!A crushing defeat.

We go to war, give a crushing defeat.Do we win? Not even then, we get nothing except. The 'simla accord' is our pride. That nobody besides us gives it a damn, doesnt bother us.

Thousand cuts for thousand years. Kargil, Massacres in Doda, Srinagar, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Akshardham, Mumbai, and even an attack on the parliament. If this is not proxy war? what is it? DENIAL!

7 well coordinated blasts in 11 minutes. 200 dead and 700 wounded. Reaction: Please Keep calm. And a 40 Car majestic motorcade by an italian housewife.

We truly are a unique people! Nothing will move us.

I agree with the author's opinion that enough is enough. If India sits silent on this and accepts it as Karma , it will become our Karma. It is worse to lose without making an effort than to rise up and fight. It is time that We the people Awake , albeit our leaders are asleep. We have to make the fight against terror as our personal armageddon

Indian Counter Strike
by AP on Jul 13, 2006 04:39 AM  Permalink

Indians as a people are courageous.

What they lack is the leadership - men and women with a strong back bone and intestinal fortitude who can lead us to battle - and tell us to stand strong

And this embarrassing trend has been true for more than a millenia. How many battles have the armies of India won against invading marauders from Khyber Pass - or those European Traders from far across the ocean.

With very few exceptions (ie. Shivaji, Tipu Sultan, Lakshmi Bai etc.), our kings and generals in the past, and our politicians in the present, have been thoroughly incompetent at everything except filling their own treauries and bank accounts.

And when Indians found proper training and leadership under the British, Indian Soldiers became the tip of the spear - winning victories for our masters in far flung places - and being awarded the second highest number of Victoria Crosses in the Empire.

What we need is the Warrior Spirit back in us. Tell us all, that there is one one Caste - Kshatriya... There is only one religion - the One that Leads to God - what ever way it may take... and there is only one people - Indian...

Then "Cry Havoc and Let loose the Dogs of War"

Although I agree with the sentiments of the author I don\'t know if going for a full fledged war with Pakistan would be wise.

Look at the US situation - although they went out and proved a point now they are a country of people under a constant state of fear and paranoia. Its akin to catching a tiger by its tail, there\'s not letting go there after. Before we decide to take such a drastic step we need to weigh the pros and cons, notwithstanding the all important fact that the country we are trying to wage a war with is a known nuclear power, unlike the case with the US. Also the country in question is our neighbour and the cross border relations (though never better than strained at best) will never be the same again, again, unlike the case with the US.

As much as I\'d like to see the ones responsible for these acts to be dealt with severely, we need to rationalize our thinking before getting ourselves into something on this scale.

Sub : Enough is Enough
by William on Jul 13, 2006 03:54 AM  Permalink

I read the article and it does echo the sentiments of the young generation of our country. But there are a few who feel war for war and brick for brick ..... and the whole world becomes blind. My question to this mentality is "what is the use of making peace when the other side is at war?" Should we make peace with the enemy when we are surrounded with the dead bodies of our own country men? I dont even know if I will be able to live tomorrow if these kind of acts are carried out on innocent people and the culprits go scott free.

So I feel that it is high time we hit back and hit hard!!!

A few more thoughts..
by PL on Jul 13, 2006 03:49 AM  Permalink

I think the arguements in this article are valid, However the author is missing a key point - US is a developed nation i.e. its got the money it needs to sustain and wage war on other countries. India is a nation that is trying to move forward economically, but waging war will bring us back.

I also agree that sometimes you need to take two steps back and one forward..but war can suck any hope of being economically stable out. All the benefit that IT has done for india will be for nothing, as most companies will pull out of India if the nation is at war.

I hate to see Indian politicians being complacent about this attack and all others. I was one of the many who wanted India to go to war with pakistan at the time of Kargil, but on the other hand I fear for our country if it does. I also believe that if we do, we might be pushed back as far as progress goes but we will bounce back in due time.

we need to make a bold line between endurance and impotency.
by gem on Jul 13, 2006 03:44 AM  Permalink

I hear from every corner that Mumbai is back on its feet. It's resilience. but it hurts when I hear that life is back to normal. It's impotency. How could life of the city become NORMAL before getting the culprits broght to justice. Think of a child (Hindu or Muslim, does that matter?) who has lost his father, the only bread-earner of the family. Will Mumbai ever dare to say to that child that life is back to Normal? Will life for this child ever going to become normal?

We can erase the feeling of pain by enduring it again and again but we we cant erase pain itself. Our endurance is already touching the line of impotency.

Cant we produce a strong leader who do not speak and act in passive voice. Cant we produce a single leader who can rise above petty political dramas and put India where anyone would think hard of its own survival before thinking anything against of.

I think that you should all realize that you need money to fight the war on terror. Before you get carried away by comparing yourselves to the Americans please check to see how much money you have in the treasury, and also how far it will take you. Our companies dont pay taxes (at least not enough) - Our nation has no well known international brands. we barely have enough in our coffers to fight for one month. Is this board full of morons?
