I beg to differ from certain people who say that get the army and clear the mess. WHY ??? Y should The army get involve in thing like this . Isnt the remaining 99 crore population sensitive enough to these facts ..Lets stop calling Army for all small things .. Lets make an effort ourslves I think the Army deserves better treatment and has bigger challenges than to clean the mess in MUMBAI ... the chalta hai attitude has to change >>>>>...
We need to disband the BMC, which swallows 70% of city revenues and is one of the most corrupt and useless organisations, as is evident. Replace the BMC by private sector maintenance contracts, Sharad Rao be damned. We don't need corporators, why should the Congress/Shiv Sena decide where a road or pipeline has to be laid? Our corporators too have done the vanishing trick during this crisis.Last but not least, we need to relook at the slums. As a taxpayer, from whom the government extorts 30% of his income, is this the way we are being asked to live? 60% of Mumbai living in the slums, pays no revenue worth the name, yet every TV channel focussed on the slums.Few middle class persons will bribe their way for compensation from the government, but their suffering is in fact much worse than the slumdweller. Is the middle class going to be let off the tax hook because they suffered losses because their houses were submerged in muck?
It's really very shocking to see the state of a world class city just after a day's heavy rain fall. Mumbai is India's economic capital as well as most expesive city. Mumbaites are the highest tax payers in India in form of Income Tax, Sales Tax, property tax etc. And what services are we receiving in exchange? Basic necessities like food, water and electricity have not reached to the certain areas even after five days gap!! Whom should we blame?
By now everybody must have realised that the damage was mostly not due to rain but the poor state of administration and rampant corruption. It is a time for all NGO's and local social organisations to come together and condemn the current policies of the Goverment for allowing rampant construction, increasing FSI's, killing mangroves etc. without having any vision to deal with such calamities.
Its sad to see what Mumbai is going through. Its even sad to hear that even in such times, politicians are not sparing a thought and making statements of throwing non Mumbaikars out. I think its time people realised that Mumbai is what it is today, due to the amalgamation of all the cultures. By making such statements, the politicians and in turn the authorities are trying to deviate attention from their inefficiencies and irresponsible behaviour. The city has grown at a rate which is not sustainable. The natural waterways were filled up, the infrastructure was not upgraded and whatever money was collected, went into someones pocket. I guess we will have to live with all of it, unless we stand up and speak and force the people to take action.
I am totally agree with shailesh. Make Mumbai as a seprate state. Maharshtra excluding mumbai is enough for these currupt politicians.BMC and State government has done nothing for mumbai. I am staying in andheri from last 5 years but you can see the condition of the roads they have never done anything. How can a MLA within a year build around 1-2 corore empire, how can a corporate become that rich. Dear friends this is all our money what we pay as a tax on each and everything.Let me tell you a clear thing maharshtra is no more a developed state rather its sinking state. Before it sinks do something.
