Stop blaming the rains
by jaideep on Aug 02, 2005 03:03 PM

We need to disband the BMC, which swallows 70% of city revenues and is one of the most corrupt and useless organisations, as is evident. Replace the BMC by private sector maintenance contracts, Sharad Rao be damned. We don't need corporators, why should the Congress/Shiv Sena decide where a road or pipeline has to be laid? Our corporators too have done the vanishing trick during this crisis.Last but not least, we need to relook at the slums. As a taxpayer, from whom the government extorts 30% of his income, is this the way we are being asked to live? 60% of Mumbai living in the slums, pays no revenue worth the name, yet every TV channel focussed on the slums.Few middle class persons will bribe their way for compensation from the government, but their suffering is in fact much worse than the slumdweller. Is the middle class going to be let off the tax hook because they suffered losses because their houses were submerged in muck?
