I live in Hyderabad. I could not furnish House rent , LIC premium receipt and other investment particulars to my employer before December,2007 for some reasons beyond my control. As a result my employer deducted tax and remitted to the Income tax department . Now can I submit return enclosing copies of the investments and House rent receipt duly claining refund. Kindly elucidate.

You can very well do this. All you need to do is to submit all the proofs to a tax consultant and recalculate your tax. He would charge you a nominal amount(Rs.300 to Rs.500). Also you need to fill in refund form. Your tax form will be filed with ITO along with the refund form, and this can also be done by the tax consultant. You will be receiving the tax refund in a couple of months

Every year they extend this to 31st aug, and later to even 31st Oct last year. I am positive this year also they may have to extend since the govt may itself fall and Mulayam has aked for Chidambaram's removal

Though the article may come across as oft-repeated and simple, it has been done well, because it takes care of a lot of simple things- cost, time, etc. Very good.

Tax Return

I live in Delhi. My organisation has deducted more tax than was applicable on my income. Should I go ahead and file return myself ( as I have been doing for last 3 years) or Do I take help of a CA so that I get my money back soon? Please advise.
In how much time should I expect the refund?

Hi Inder... You can still file returns yourself. Method is simple, download ITR-1 excel sheet available at incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in Fill-in MICR code and your account details with care. In tax-payable and TDS section, carefully fill amount which will automatically be compared for return or deduction. Upload it on website and check in IT deptt's refund section on website, it will ask you for your PAN card number and the status will reflect.

Hope it will help
