This is again another example of how a 'blinded' hrd minister can go further to. Just how he evades reasoning and supports fallacity. IITs aren't shops which can be franchised. This step will lead to dilution of the brand value of what constitutes an IITian and ultimately lead to lowering of the IIT quality overall. I find it hard to understand how the minister can run the ministry like it is his playground . Ofcourse he is a minister but he has been elected to the office and the hrd ministry is not his office. Its time he stops gimmicks like saffronising education and increasing the number of IITs. Is the PM listening ?
With the burgeoning super intelligent indian human capital matched by the virtual global needs, it is quite logical to increase the IITs without compromising on the quality education.

I agree with you but we definetly need quality education and more institute like IITs. The only fear is dilution of quality. And I am sure that maintaining high standards will not be possible by casual attitude of government as it is showing towards other private engg. colleges opening in various state in huge number.

Yes i strongly feel there is need and scope for more IITs in the country and government's step is in the right direction. It should be seen in the light of number of aspirants to number of seats available which remained constant for very long time.
Thus even though no of aspirants increased not the seats resulting in well deserving candidates to be left out.
With increrasing level of literacy and competetion it is important that more students get chance to study at this hallowed institution.
The only caveat is that these new additions should have same high quality infrastructure and faculty to join the big league
It will be good for the country as well regional areas. Instead of creating new IIT's the idea of upgrading REC's to IIT will be better. It will cater for the betterment of REC's whose students are given lessed importance than IIT's. And also will cater regions where these REC's situated.
Increasing the number of IITs is always a welcome step as that leads to setting up institutes of higher learning and valuable research.IITs are recognised through out the world for the quality of their output and excellent academic pursuit they undertook. The standards of the faculty, teaching approach of the faculty, evaluation are truly worldclass and more such institutions in India is a boon for the people pursuing academic intersts and people at large.
IIT is having god name in the sociaty. if you people increased that seets . people will get increased ,then automatically the value will decrease.if we can think it as a business then we can increase. do't increase to maintain a quality.
Actually we had only 6 IITs. Some two years back they added one more i.e. Roorkee. If we go on adding the number of IITs then the quality of IITs will sure be coiming down. IITs are ranked one of the best institutions available throughout the world. We should not risk the quality of IIts at any cost. In fact very recently Govt., wanted to dismandle the under-graduate programmes in IITs which was opposed by all learned persons in this country. Then only the govt intorduced NIT.
In my openion we should not allow the govt to increase the number of IITs.
so if the decision is to increase the number, think of two things our IIT graduates were the best in the world till date the main reason is that their quality is very high and their subject knowledge is very high because there is only the best in the IIT.
personally speaking i missed IIT in a very close combat and i am least bothered because i dont deserve it and so the rest because of quality difference.
the second reason is that dont see educationoal service as a trade its inhuman and against the laws of nature.

Don't underestimate yourself. If you had missed getting a seat in IIT, there is nothing disastrous thing happened to you. And don't be under an impression that IIT students are the only brilliant brains in the country. There are several brilliant engineering graduates emerging from other reputed colleges who have already made a mark in India and Abroad. Instead of just regretting that you missed a seat in IIT, do your best in your present course and surpass even the IIT guys.
This step of government will only destroy the quality of IIT's .It will not enhance their quality but destroy the primeness of such institute. Already seven IIT's wil a intake of 3000 students is enough .
I would seriously urge the government not to indulge in such things as we have very few quality institutes like IIT's and IIM's and every step should be take to preserver the legacy they have earned over years .
