Do we need more IITs?
by Tsewang Thinglas on Oct 24, 2003 06:44 PM  Permalink

AS per my view increasing the number of IIT will not benifit. So The idea of Makeing more IIT will not work.As Already REC's shifted to NIT's then what is the fun just changing the name of the Institution to IIT.If u really bothered to create more Technical people then Improve the Infrastructure of the existing Colleges. And Increase the education standard by reviseing the syllabus and providing Good Laboratory facilities.Thats it.

more IIT's
by Maneesha Sudheer on Oct 24, 2003 05:53 PM  Permalink

More IIT's will not change our educational system present now. It's better to alter our educational system by giving more importance to research and practical experience. This is the only way to make INDIA better.

do we need more IITs
by krishna on Oct 24, 2003 05:50 PM  Permalink

before actually thinking on the point whether we need more IITs or not the question needs to be asked is whether we are harnessing the people who are coming out of IITs to the best possible use.

or is it that we are producing IITians for the USof A.

since most of the people who study in IITs either go to the USA. maybe 20 to 30 percent stay back in india.

and among them most of them don't take up a job in the field of their specialisation.

the queation is not of starting new IITs but utilising the existing human resource well.

By Converting RECs into IITs, will not change the quality which is more important than the quantity.

IIT increasing
by jenu24 on Oct 24, 2003 05:40 PM  Permalink

I strongly feel more IITs need to be introduced. the wisdom and expertise is abundant in India and we still see that students flocking to foreign nations and their recognitions are regarded the ultimate. To bring down the institutions of higher studies under affordable costs and create a base for other nations to look up at India we need to have more IITs.

More IITs
by Chanakya Potdar on Oct 24, 2003 05:00 PM  Permalink

I think that creating more IITs is not a solution to fulfill the need of technical skilled persons ..hence we have to improve the level of other colleges and to revise the technical syllabus.

We are not at that level the media has highlighted ...

because media people are not too much tecnical to understand all these ...

IT is a bubble ... in BIOTECH we are no where ...

we have to give more stress to basic subject not to the virtual one ...

regards..

IITs
by Kartik on Oct 24, 2003 04:15 PM  Permalink

Yes definitely the increase in number of IITs in the country will enhance the quality of technical education as it would now be open for more people. On the contrary, the craze for being in the top institute will certainly go down as there will not be much fight to crack the JEE as it have been before.

So it would be a compromise between the quality education and the distinction of studying in the top class institute.

No need for more IITs
by megha on Oct 24, 2003 03:12 PM  Permalink

IITs have always been considered a class apart, an institute for the best of the best .If the number si incereased the exclusive nature and the image of IITians is bound to be tarnished a li'l .The need is to upgrade quality of education in RECs not upgradtion of status.
An IIT is an IIT and one should not play games with their flawless technical and academic reputation.

i think that the addition of iit colleges will surely add to the growing power of india. there are many students in india who inspite of being very intelligent do not end up cracking the iit exam. asd a result they get demoralised.Who knows may be such people would have helped india in the long run.there is no doubt that iit is a prestigious institute and it should always be the most important institute in india. But keeping in view the population and the intelligency present in india even 12 institutes seem to be less. Therefore in my opnion we do need more iits so that india can exploit the brilliant minds that is present and scattered all over the country.
