no we do not need more iits
by c shashi kiran on Oct 27, 2003 03:18 PM  Permalink

i think more iits will dilute the standards.the reason iits are famous is that they are very selective in choosing students.upgrading recs is not so good an idea.

it is necessary

I think it is necessary to increase no. of iit's but my suggestion let the nit's be nit's,improve their standards, and make iit's for only research work not for b.tech as all about the issue of making iit for only mtechs.

Do we need more IIT's?
by M.S.NIRANJANA on Oct 27, 2003 11:32 AM  Permalink

I don't think so we need more IIT's.If we increase the number it will loose its value and reputation.Students will start feeling that it is one more engineering college.

Instead of increasing IIT's REC's can be increased.

IIT'S should be few in number so that students will really Know the value of it and come there to gain more knowledge through competion and with hard work.

Few in number more the value.

iit strength should be increased
by balakrishna on Oct 27, 2003 11:26 AM  Permalink

new iits should be made by upgrading the nits with good infrastructure...........

it may take some years to get them to iit standards then we can have quality education in these institutes.....

but for 6 to 7 years it will lag behind the iits...

do we need more IIT?
by saurabh on Oct 27, 2003 11:23 AM  Permalink

hi all,
do we think just increasing the number will do a miracle? IITs are famous for the quality as the brains have to pass the fierce competition of getting admission to the premier institute.
Increase in number will dilute the competition and in turn the quality.

MIT is considered one of the best institute in the world because it is the only one. do we think increased number of MITs would have had the same respect?

Think about IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee. some students prefer some RECs then getting into these institutes. so mere IIT tag will not do any miracle, it has to be upto the standard.

well some may differ in views but this is what i believe.

IIT
by Dr. Poonam Harlalka on Oct 27, 2003 11:17 AM  Permalink

IIT is a name by itself all over the world because of the high quality of intelligence associated with the students. There is an obvious difference between the top rankers at IIT-JEE and those lower down in the ranks( with few exceptions of course).A slight increase in the seats is good but if they are increased indiscriminately, the quality is bound to deteriorate. I sincerely hope the standards can be maintained.

do we need more iits
by Vallabh on Oct 27, 2003 10:36 AM  Permalink

there are many colleges in india which equivallent to iits but are not famous because they are not iit. some them include NIT's at Trichy,Calicut,Surathkal
and VJTI bombay.see IIT's are famous in foreign countries also because of their them and if india has to increase the no of quality engineers and these colleges must be converted to iit's. what IIT means more than a NIT is more funding ,more facilities and more importantly the worldwide recognition. so that i support to have at least 4 more IIT's.

Do we need more IIT's?
by Robin on Oct 27, 2003 10:26 AM  Permalink

Yes i think we do, upgrading rec's to iit's is a good thing. iit's will still be a standard college if they do the necesary things to elevate the present status of rec's into iit's
