The Desai snacks in Vashi Plaza, Sector 17, Vashi is one of the best fast food joints in Navi Mumbai. Just as you enter Vashi from the Highway this joint is just around the corner. Within 15 or 20 Rupees, one can get a hearty meal of Chhole Khulche, Paav bhaaji, bhel, chaat and about 20 dishes more. The service here too is quite fast. And if you decide not to cook at home, this place offers great food within Rs.40 with a great quantity and quality as good as that of home cooked food.
There is one chat corner Vivek Khand, Gomti Nagar Lucknow who makes delicious chat and there is samose ki dukaan whose samosas are so delicious and mouth watering that is unmatchable.
Zhatka Bhel at one end of the station foyer - made by a kindly man who has a tremor in his hand, hence the name (not kidding!). Rs. 7 for pure bhel bliss in the evening. Commuters line up early so as to get the bhel before the local train comes in.
Shabeer's Anda Bhurji cart - outside the Shivajinagar ST bus station entry for buses. Rs. 18 for a double bhurji is a fast foodie's idea of pure paradise. He has fans from all over - mostly students who romped in Pune late at night searching for good food after a ride 'round town.
more to come - Kutchi dabeli, and of course, Misal Pav
'Ghugni', prepared mainly from peas & potatoes, available at CR Park, New Delhi, just fulfills your mind and stomach. Costs Rs.5 for vegetarian and Rs.10 for 'mutton ghugni'. Next, you can have 'mishti doi' - sweet curd from the nearby Bengali sweet shop for Rs.10 in earthen pot. Its a refreshing experience. If you have sweet tooth, or even you don't, you must try 'bounde' - the Bengali version of 'bundia' to know how different and tasty this item can be. Even if you taste a little sample of 100 gram for Rs.10 or so, you will feel compelled to have more and more. For the ultimate experience of sweet delicacy, you have to wait for winter when 'Rasogolla' and other milk products made using 'Khejur gur' or palm juggary are available. Rs.5 or Rs.6 per piece. If you feel compelled not to neglect the non sweet items, try out 'Mocha-r chop', a fried item made from Banana flower. Costs Rs.5. I could go on endlessly about cheap & heavenly food items. But I will end by mentioning the best of them all. For this you have to travel far to Agartala, the capital of hilly Tripura. 'Khirtua' a milk based sweet dish is something you simply got to taste in your lifetime. Costs Rs.5 per piece.
